Humanities CLEP Question - irnbru - 12-11-2010

I always thought that CLEPs were normalised t-scores (thank you ALEKS).

Mean score of 50 with a standard deviation of 10 means a max score of 80 is well into the 99% percentile ranking. Anything outside 3 sd either way isn't really meaningful.

Some tests have better pass rates, meaning despite a reasonable performance, maybe an individual's score isn't as high as they might expect (it sounds like American Government is definitely one of these as an example).

The technical data that EC released for plotting grades for ECEs is useful for comparison, too.

See below for a nice curve. Much better than the wikipedia wall of text page on t-scores which is just daft.

PonyGirl93 Wrote:brownies- Well, CLEP keeps it secret exactly how many is passing, but some more mathematically-minded person around here has a hypothesis about that, see here: http://www.degreeforum.net/general-education-testing-discussion/1726-cracked-clep-scoring-secret.html?highlight=questions+pass+CLEP+formula

Ha-ha...I looked at the guy's mathematical calculation and decided to stick to just studying hard. I guess I'll worry about my score when the results pop up on my computer screen.

Keep your fingers crossed, I'll be taking my humanities test in just 2 days and I am still having trouble memorizing 50% of the humanities content - mainly nonfiction, poetry, and music. :leaving:

If it comforts you any, I don't remember there being a single non-fiction question on there, and the only poetry questions I remember were minority poets. Same with music: study jazz :p

Great! I will focus on music and poetry more then.

I hope to post successful results tomorrow afternoon! I'm really pumped! I hope that's a good thing - honestly I just want to get it over with.

Thanks for your continued help! You rock!

Congrats Brownies! Can you forward me a copy of your notes and let me know if there's anything that stood out on the test that I may need to study more?

This will be my last class to complete my 4-yr degree.
