So I "guess" that means he needs to be finished with anything concerning ALEKS before 1/15/2010??? Do others (cookderosa, anyone else...) on here read the situation this way? Hi Paul, The answer is yes. I have looked at every single course available from ACE and where a course or exam has been completed within the respective time period, ACE will accept and transcribe it. Once a course has been accepted by ACE it is there for as long as ACE is. It was an interesting exercise as some courses/exams accepted by ACE differed in the number of credits and area of focus depending on when they were completed. The situation with ALEKS is not necessarily about hitting the end of the line, rather that the 'contract' period will be up for renewal. So to guarantee that ACE will accept one of the current nine ALEKS courses, they need to be completed (not necessarily submitted to ACE) before the 2010 review. However, due to the mechanics of taking one ALEKS course per account, you would normally submit a completed (70%) course as soon as possible. When you first listed this I just finished all 3 courses and was just too miserable to comment. I however would like to know how long it took for Excelsior to indicate they received ACE's transcript? Not wanting to start any rumors here so be aware I may have even dreamed it! My son is working on ALEKS Precal & my daughter will at some point but I was just wondering if there is any time factor where this window will close. Hope this is useful Paul. ACE credits the requirement at the time the course was active. That means if you look at my signature, the score for my Analyzing and intepereting lit test was 47 to pass and I had 48 so ACE honors that test at that time. The score is now 50. But my score is valid because that was that test at that time. TESC will honor that. Aleks courses if submitted to ACE through https://ACENET.EDU/transcripts will work in the similar fashion on your transcripts. Make sure it gets submitted and approved to ACE for the individual in the course that solidifies it as credit hours on their individual transcripts. It is credited during the point at wchich the course was valid. If for some odd reason they reevaluate ALEKS for 2010 and decide hey your course needs to be 80 percent complete before we give credit or your course needs to have whatever the fact you passed the valid 2009 course will still be honored in the position when the course You, or your son or daughter for that matter, took was valid How many years is up to you. I took Analyzing and Interp in 2002. My DSST Computing was from 2002 as well. I had them first transferred to Columbia in 2004. I then decided that wasn't the place for me and had it sent to Thomas Edison in 2007. So thats at least 5 years and they promise 20 for CLEP. Dont take to many years to let them finish or they will be shooting themselves for not doing it sooner. I am sure they are already ahead of the game with you looking out for them. Dont forget ALEKS may indeed get the nod for another 3 years in January but that is not yet guranteed. From the earlier emails on this thread that were posted it appears McGraw Hill will renew these courses. And maybe they will get that awesome Genereal Chem course approved and help some people with science credits hopefully. My current transcript from ACE has ALEKS PreCalc/College Algebrawtrig/ and Statistics on it. And more importantly no expiration date on my transcript as of yet. Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - cookderosa - 02-26-2009 I think it's important to specify which school you mean when you talk about policy. EC does seem to restrict the number of math and stats courses you can take through ALEKS, while -for now- TESC does not. Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - HAH_HS - 02-28-2009 Hello, I teach Business Stats and use ALEKS for my course and I am a homeschooling parent. I have followed this thread with interest. I have sent the link to this forum to my McGraw Hill representative who is going to either forward this to the right person or point me there. I have an excellent relationship with my McGraw Hill rep and I have no doubt I can get clarification on ALEKS and the ACE transcript. HAH-HS Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - dflowers2 - 02-28-2009 I have about 34 hours invested in the Aleks College Algebra course so far and I just had another assessment pop up. I just can't do it tonight, I will do it tomorrow. I really hope my school will accept the ACE credit for it. If not, I hope I will atleast be ready for the College Algebra CLEP or DSST. I know my school accepts ACE credits; I am just not sure if they will give me credit for this course as my math requirement or an elective. I will have to say that overall I like the Aleks system, but I am not sure it is easier than sitting in a class. It maybe a little more convenient, but not easier. Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - cookderosa - 03-01-2009 As an encouragement to others who might feel like this is taking too long- my son (8th grade) is taking ALEKS Intro Algebra. He started Sept 1st, and is only at 61 hours. His first assessment on that day was 14%. It's been slow, and ALEKS doesn't "count" all the hours together- like when he does QuickTables, or when he takes an assessment (he has had 6), so I know he has logged at least another 6 hours, maybe a bit more. Anyway, his assessment tonight was 55%!! He is getting closer! This is totally a self-teaching system, so I think it's pretty cool that my son's level of independence is 100%, and he is learning that he doesn't need a teacher to "teach" him. I did ask him to pick up the pace a bit. I'd like him to finish >70% by Spring Break. (to give my wallet a rest) As an incentive, I'll let him be done with math for the year if he makes it by then! He is highly motivated- which is why he was doing math (his idea) on a Saturday night ![]() Does anyone know what exactly this class will transfer into TESC as? Credit for ALEKS Corp (McGraw Hill) Online courses in College Algebra & Statistics - jonasling - 03-01-2009 Could people who have used ALEKS please tell me the approximate actual hours spent to achieve 70% and the name of the course taken? Thanks in advance. Thanks in advance. Hi Jonasling, It depends. Assessment might take 1-2 hours if you have prior learning. This is roughly how long it took me for each of the maths courses. Now working through the stats courses with only probability prior experience and it's a whole different kettle of fish ![]() |
