Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - TMW2010 - 03-09-2010 Not defending Calico (nor would they accept such defense from a braggart like myself, I'm sure,) but their advice is something to give serious thought. You never know who's out there behind the screen - as a psych major, I can verify there are wackos and dangerous people :p Just check out the last few women I dated before I met my wife! I kid I kid... (only kinda sorta though) Just use common sense.. Shrug (and carry a big ole can of industrial strength mace at all times.) :ack: Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - Anastasia - 03-09-2010 Once again, I'm not concerned about meeting folks from this site at graduation. I don't plan on going alone to their hotel room or anything. It's really time to move on from that discussion. I never asked for anyone's advice on that subject, and unsolicited advice is not usually well-received. Being a Psych major, I imagine that you know about something called 'idocyncratic credits'. What that means is that if you consistently do something in a certain way - i.e., show up on time, then if you're late once in a great while because of a car accident on the freeway or something, you are given leeway. It's how you are the majority of time that counts. Likewise, if someone like Calico had a track record of posting kind, thoughtful comments, then her comment about safety would have been received by all in a different light - regardless or whether or not they agree with the sentiment. I do not know what the issue is with Calico, whether she is seeks attention or what, but this forum is an important place for people to seek support for getting through college on their own. That is a very challenging undertaking for most of us, and I believe I speak for many when I say that we all would appreciate keeping the atmosphere positive. I have already posted before how much I LOVE this forum because it has helped me in more ways than I care to count. This is the only ONLINE "educational community" I have found that is this AWESOME. I have met "virtually of course!"---so many wonderful people that go out of there way to help a fellow IC'er in need. Even the folks that have graduated STILL come back and contribute to the forums. Sorry...I'm digressing. I just wanted to say, that in my almost 30 years on this planet...I've learned one thing well---and that is people are going to be people. My brother told me something about 5 years ago and I swear that it's the truth...he said, "Marshall...some people just DON'T know any better." I try to believe that people are "inherently good," and mean well. But sometimes I don't know if that is the case. I believe the above because I just can't fathom why someone would CHOOSE to be negative and mean...INTENTIONALLY. Especially on a forum like this. I'm not gonna be long-winded but it's a lot that I wanted to say on this subject but I will keep it short and sweet. In summation, we all make choices. Some choose to be positive and uplifting; and others choose the opposite. Either way...a choice is being made. I've also learned that it doesn't matter what someone else says about you, it's how you respond to it. Now I don't know if the person "in question" needs a hug or what. Maybe we should be more compassionate and try to figure out what the problem is. Maybe that person is going through something and needs some attention. I'm by no means a Psych major but I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that there is ALWAYS a reason for people's behavior. I personally believe that and ALWAYS will. I don't believe people act a certain way for no reason at all. There's something going on. I will and suggest everyone else does the same and just pray for that person. If help is needed on this forum...help will be given, there is no question about that. We are all here to serve...in some shape, form, or fashion. {CAUTION to whom this applies to} However, if the choice is made to not act upon the offer given, and you CHOOSE to continue on your negative tirade, then you will leave US no choice but to rinder you a drone in the hive of nature and will be treated as such. As for the rest of us...who know what it is we came here to do, I offer this advice... Don't be dragged down to the level of idiots because it's never overcrowded there. Let Our Light Shine before men, that they may see our good works. Don't give them what they want...he/she/they are just trying to get a rise out of us and we should just ignore it. Someone once said that, "the greatest revenge is Success." Now let's keep pushing, moving forward, and do what we all came here to do. So much for being short and sweet!!! But I would like to end this with a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson... "What I must do is all that concerns me, not what the people think. This rule, equally arduous in actual and in intellectual life, may serve for the whole distinction between greatness and meanness. It is the harder, because you will always find those who think they know what is your duty better than you know it. It is easy in the world to live after the world's opinion; it is easy in solitude to live after our own; but the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude." From a loyal degree seeker, Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - taylor - 03-09-2010 Most of us only graduate once, so I think it is a great opportunity to meet your fellow alums at such a special moment in our lives. But just make sure the others you meet are wearing a cap and gown too and not a ski mask during the summer time because then you need to RUN!!! Seriously, enjoy your graduation guys! I'm sure the pictures will turn out better too, the more the merrier! Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - Anastasia - 03-09-2010 Drat, you mean I have to leave my ski gear at home? Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - taylor - 03-09-2010 See, I think most of us have it wrong. I think it's the OP we have to worry about. Her massage therapy training probably translates into at least a brown belt in martial arts. I'm sure she is more than capable of doing some round house kicks and some wax on, wax off moves. I wouldn't be surprised if the song "Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting" is on her IPOD. And her favorite cartoon is probably Hong Kong Fooey He's a #1 Super Guy, oops that shows my age. On top of that don't be surprised to see Pat Morita by her side at graduation. Just kidding. cheersmate Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - bricabrac - 03-09-2010 hilarious I'm a friggin TESC student so cannot attend your gettogether, but if I could darnit I'd be there front and center. Congratulations to you all!cheersmate I don't think I've enjoyed another thread more than this one - you guys/gals are hysterical. :roflol: Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - taylor - 03-09-2010 I got to stop talking like an 8th grader and start talking like a college graduate, I'm ruining my image. The older I get the smarter I WAS. I hope they don't take my diploma backhilarious . Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - Anastasia - 03-09-2010 Taylor - you have my number oh too well! I am only 5'2", but you really have to watch your kneecaps around me. bricabrac - wish you could join us too! Excelsior Graduation July 9, 2010 - taylor - 03-09-2010 Just a thought, maybe we should have a combined TESC/EC graduation ceremony somewhere in between both schools like the BRONX. That way we will accept everyone for who they are nerd, stalker, pervert, socially awkward, creep, etc. because we will be more concerned about getting mugged. YIKES! Sorry for the nonsense, I think I had too much coffee throughout the day. |
