Marshall,

Do you have any room for Applied Professional credits left toward your associates degree ? If so the 3 NFA ACE reviewed course ( Q118, Q137, Q318 ) might be an option for you. You could definitely complete them pretty quickly and they are free to take, the only cost would be the cost of the ACE transcript. NFA Online Home Page

Thanks Peace for the advice. After your post, I said...what the heck it's free! I just started the Q118 course and finished in under 3 hours! Now just two more to go.

I'll take a free 3 credits any day:hurray:

Thanks again...

You know I thought about the ECE exams for my upper level credit. I guess the only thing that worries me about that is paying $235+ upfront for an exam and run the risk of not passing. I mean for $13 more bucks I can take a correspondence course through Arkansas State University for $248 and includes books!!! It just doesn't seem like much incentive really.

But I really do despise courses and classrooms so if I need to I may do just that (ECE exams)

Thanks again!

Marshall,
Have you considered just taking the DSST Civil War & Reconstruction, DSST Rise and Fall of the Soviet Union, and Money and Banking? That will give you 9 UL Social Science credits right there. You can get a psychology depth and a history depth. Unless you just want to stick to the Psychology concentration. Just a thought.

Marshall, I have taken several ECE's and they are not that bad. If you stick with ECE's that have practice exams, they are very doable. A lot of the questions and scenarios on the practice exams are used on the actual exams which makes it much easier. You really will know what to expect if you do the practice exams. I think you can do them without any trouble. They are expensive, but quite doable. If I can do them you can! Map out a plan and go for it!

Marshall: First of all, congrats on your first child! :hurray:

Second, glad to see you back working on your degree. I've read a few of your old posts and found them useful in my own pursuits. Thanks. Smile

Finally, if there is a Strayer University near where you live you might consider trying them out for taking exams. The one near me in Northern Virginia has hours on Tuesday/Thursday mornings and afternoons as well as Sunday mornings. I've found that to be very convenient for my busy schedule. The most difficult for me has been squeezing in study time!

Well good luck with your studies, I'm off to take the DSST Rise & Fall of the Soviet Union exam (pretty nervous too).

I'm not sure about EC, but TESC also accepts the following DSST exams for Social Sciences as upper level:
  • An Introduction to the Modern Middle East
  • A History of the Vietnam War
  • Substance Abuse
  • Organizational Behavior

You might check and see if EC counts these exams as upper level like TESC does. I've only taken the Vietnam War exam from this list and it is definitely doable. I'm scheduled for the Middle East and Organizational Behavior exams so can't comment on those yet. As for Substance Abuse, well that one "scares" me and I'm avoiding it myself but others have done it here. Good luck!

Lots of folks to respond to so I guess I'll start in the order received!!!

JADECHOW: The reason I chose GRE Psych was because of all the subjects listed...Psychology is the only thing I'd be willing to attempt. I know nothing about those other subjects. But I do love it when you call me "dude!!!":coolgleam:

PEACE123: Thanks again for the NFA advice...2 down and one more to go (Q137)...then I can add another 3 credits to my bag!!!

CLEP101: The DSST exams you listed...I already have on my degree plan. I will look into the depth/focus you mentioned though. Thanks

MARIANNE: Just for the record...you give me the fuzzies all overConfusedmilelol: ! You sure know how to get a brotha pumped!!! I will put the ECE exams in my arsenal...if all else fails!

IRISHJOHN: Thanks!!! I did check in on Strayer. The closest one is 37 miles from me and they only do CLEPbanghead !!! So it looks like I may be screwed trying to find someone who administers exams on Saturdays. Anyway...Good luck on your DSST exam (even though I know you don't need it). Once you pass...be sure to report because I have to take this one too and I'm picking everyone's brains like the Night of the Living DeadConfusedmilelol:

Thanks again everybody for the advice and support. Let it rain!!! I have attached a copy of my "makeshift" degree plan for your perusal.

Chat with ya later.

That's awesome. Made me laugh out loud.

Ok my little cupcake,
1 thing I did want to mention after checking out your degree plan is: Money and Banking is an awful exam. Just my humble opinion but I think the puking symbol says it all....:puke:

Instead of that 1 (unless you're a glutton for punishment - which you just may be Wink ), you might want to consider the new DSST Business Ethics. I talked to an advisor at EC yesterday and she told me they were treating that exam kind of like the Org Behavior test. Meaning that if you are a business student it's considered a business elective but if you're a liberal arts student it would fall under social sciences. Word on the street is that it's an easier test. I'll let you know cause I'm taking it on Friday. Also, if you consider this option, ALWAYS verify with an advisor (meaning get it in writing) where they would credit it. Don't want to steer you wrong, DUDE!

By the way, have I mentioned how happy I am that you're back?

That's a shame. Nothing also at the local community college or a different university? I passed my exam today with a 67! Big Grin Follow the advice in the thread for subscribers on this exam - it's spot on!

Since we're pursuing the same degree, though at different colleges, I've attached mine also in case you find something in there to help. Good luck!!!

PEACE123: I just wanted to say thank you again for suggesting those NFA courses to me. I just finished Q137 about two hours ago so I have completed all 3 courses in 28 hours!!! I love free credits!

JADECHOW: I already have DSST Business Ethics in my degree plan already. I spoke with my advisor at Excelsior a couple of days ago and she mentioned to me that they were accepting the DSST for Upper Level credit. I didn't ask but it sure would be nice if they granted Upper Level credit for the DSST World Religions exam.

Also...I've heard from others that Money & Banking wasn't "all that bad," if you've taken both Macro and Microeconomics. So that's why I put it on the list. I will take your suggestion into consideration though. If it looks like it's gonna be a bear than I'll pick an alternative. Now I have heard from others that the DSST Principles of Finance sucked big time!!! But I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.

IrishJohn: Congratulations on passing your DSST exam! 67 wow...that's an awesome score buddy...Keep it up.

I've also attached my new updated degree plan. Tell me what you think
