That seems to be who taught it this session. I've read that some had issues with her and others didn't. It is really weird! The professor I had has been promoted so I wonder if she's teaching anymore. There were a lot of new professors in YourPace this year and some of them didn't seem to have a clue what was going on. I had one who never read the Final Assessment instructions and kept telling me I was missing parts of the assignment. Um nope. Wasn't missing anything. Unlike him I actually read the instructions.....many times....to make sure I didn't miss anything.

I had Araminta Matthews for English 121 and had no issues. I submitted my draft final, she kicked it back saying the formatting needed work and to check the Purdue Owl sample student APA 7 paper. So I did.

I took the student APA sample paper, changed the title page to my information, deleted all of the content, and inserted my references into the bibliography page copying the format of the samples.

I received an A+ in the course and continued to use this template for every written final I had with no issues.

I think the issue here is that students are expecting detailed instructions on how to format an APA 7 paper and the instructor is expecting students to already have a basic understanding of APA format before they get to an English 2 class. I feel like this should be covered in the YourPace orientation.

Araminta Matthews is the one my partner used too and he had nothing but issues with it.

My boyfriend:
1) Made a citation
2) She declined it with a long rant and saying go to purdue
3) Modified it to how she wanted it
4) she declined it and left vague issues with references to "version numbers"
5) Stated we had an expert at citations look at it.
6) she said resubmit and she'll look again
7) resubmitted the original ictaiton in #1
8) got an A

Araminta Matthews was my teacher for the class as well, and as I previously outlined, I had similar issues with the course as Ashkir's partner despite being well versed in APA 7.

Well, I have submitted several papers and a PowerPoint with probably 40-50 citations in the bibliography here at UMPI with APA 7 citations and was told they were perfect. So here's hoping.

I for one will be happy when I never have to think about APA again. I'm years away from that thanks to grad school and the doctorate I want.

Olivet Nazarene University has a pretty good APA 7 template. You have to start the Your Way program to get it. No obligation to take classes, you just have to apply. Also, it would be an additional way to get some free feedback.

I’d just post it here, but I think they’re a little antsy about posting their stuff outside of the program.

Nevermind, they posted it on their publicly available library site:

I am so glad that others had the same experience with Araminta Matthews that I had. I did UMPI because of Ashkir's vivid experience. Professor Matthews made me feel stupid and I wanted to quit.

If there's ever a professor who makes you feel this way, PLEASE reach out to Cody AND Jessica right away! I had an issue with one professor and Cody had things fixed quickly.

The last session I had an instructor who I really struggled with. The previous nine classes had all been smooth sailing, but with this course, every milestone got returned for resubmission, some multiple times. The feedback provided seemed vague and didn't make sense, and even after multiple e-mails would often leave me scratching my head. I felt like an idiot regardless of anything that I did and was dreading the final assessment. I found on here that others had had the same issues and had been equally frustrated. The instructor seemed like a genuinely nice person and was not trying to make me feel stupid in his interpretation of the rubric seemed to come from out in left field.  I dug in and did the best I could, though it was challenging every step of the way, and literally breathed a sigh of relief when it was completed. I ended up with an A+ but worked for every percentage point. I think some instructors are simply more nit-picky and not every communication style matches well with every student. Communication solely by text also has inherent challenges and certain things can be highly subjective. All things considered, I am amazed that there are so few instances like this. Good luck to any who are having similar issues.
