The D or R next to their name doesn't mean much, their political priorities say a lot more.

I was responding to their tone, which sounded to me like they were blaming republicans for the issues they're having.  If the OP wants to say that he/she was NOT talking about republicans or democrats, then I'll be happy to say I misunderstood him/her.  But I'm not certain how you know that's not what they OP meant?

Hey defrecore! You're looking a little defensive right now.  I didn't say anything about their political party.  But since you brought it up, maybe if the Republicans would stop sucking up to Donald Trump and Qanon then they might actually do something that will benefit their constituents.  I'll bet that infrastructure bill would put some of those West Virginians back to work.  OK?  So now you can feel free to hit me with some sort of rant.  Proceed

I'm actually not defensive at all.  I just don't think one person can tell me that someone else didn't mean what they said - I'd rather the OP said that themselves.  BTW - even though you didn't say so, I'm thinking I was right about the Democrat/Republican thing. That's what I'm talking about when I told jsd I'd rather hear from you than him.

As for the infrastructure bill, very little has much to do with infrastructure, and lots of it is like 10 years out and won't do much for WV right now.  If it gets voted through, be prepared for it to do exactly ZERO for you any time soon.  But keep thinking that the government is going to bail you out...it doesn't seem like it's working real well to me, but I'm a small-government fiscally conservative conservative/libertarian who wishes the government would get the hell out of the way and let the economy come back.  The government is usually mucking around where they shouldn't, and not getting involved where they should.  They can do practically nothing right.  Both Democrats and Republicans.

So I looked at the offer - and it's not the governor who made it, it's a $25M grant from a private citizen.  Not sure how the governor (or senators) even got into this discussion at all?

The locations are all very small, sparsely populated, and very car dependent. No thank you.

I'd like to point out that the state has been blue since 1958 - both senators were Democrats from 1958-2015, and the Republican senator has only been there since 2015.  Jim Justice was a democrat who switched parties in 2017; prior to that he was a democrat, as were the governors from 2001 until 2015.  So to blame this on Republicans?  Yeah, no. <eyeroll>

West Virginia is one of the most conservative states in the union, and it has been voting for Republican presidential candidates for a while. People need to stop looking at party labels and look at policy stances. Joe Manchin is rated as being more conservative than some Republican senators.

Governors , senators, state and local govts have much more impact on a state’s economic situation than the president.
