I almost wasn't going to post any more because like I mentioned earlier, I really love my forum buddies too much to get into a political argument. However, after thinking about it more, I realized that we probably all agree on quite a bit. The media loves to polarize people. And no, I'm not just talking about Fox News. MSNBC and others are just as guilty. There are just better ratings involved if they can get us all riled up.

So if we're all so different, why do I say that we all agree?

•No one, regardless of political leanings wants to see lazy people get freebies.
•No one wants to see a sick person get denied treatment, even if it means that the insurance company will make more money.
•No one wants our congress to bicker and fight and feel like losers if they compromise
•No one wants the US to be in debt to China or any other country
•No one wants to see companies dump toxic sludge in a river
•EVERYONE is happy that Osama bin Laden is dead
•Everyone thinks that their are numerous government inefficiencies that need to be improved
•In spite of govt problems, no one wants to eliminate govt
•No one wants to see police/fire dept/military pay cuts and benefit reductions. I'm pretty sure that we think that those that serve their country should be able to feed their families.
•Everyone thinks that our troops are doing their best to defeat the bad guys/terrorists
•Everyone loves the USA

So what should we be doing? Our system is broken and media feeds into it. It shouldn't be viewed as a negative if our politicians compromise. I am a mother and if my kids don't compromise, they get sent to their room. We're all stuck voting for the same idiots because if you lean left, you think you have to vote dem. If you lean right, you think you have to vote republican. If both choices are bad, we're stuck. Also, even the best people with the best intentions get voted in and immediately sucked into a corrupt system in Washington and are either ineffective because they don't 'play the game' or become corrupted and detached from their constituency because they are playing the game.

I think we could do some really good things if we would just talk to each other and be more concerned about the American people rather than corporate interests. Yes, they're all bought out right now and it's sad. I honestly can't think of a single politician that's truly acting out of the best interest of the American people. (although Ron Paul may be convincing me...)

:iagree:
Too bad it's all a popularity contest now, like Donald Trump said, "Ron Paul would make a good candidate, but he's not electable." (or something to that effect)

None of us can get an honest view about the candidate. The news will totally skew the issues and only show us what they want us to see. The candidate's advertisements all look the same:

"Are you sick of the direction America is headed? With special interest and lobbyist running Washington, our country is in sore need of leadership. [insert candidate name here] loves the USA and listens to the people. [insert candidate name] listens to you and will lead our country in a better direction..."

blah blah blah.

The troops and their families have and continue to make extraordinary sacrifices for this country. Amen to that.

Burbuja, I think your post actually nails it. There is much more the American people have in common than what divides us.

Except for this part:

Quote:Everyone loves the USA

This is demonstrably not true. There is a thriving and very powerful segment of Leftist "intelligentsia" who openly call for the downgrading or dismantling of our country as we know it. People like Bill Ayers, for one, who bombed the freaking Pentagon and is now a Professor teaching our kids.

Just talking about the "communist movement" and the "socialist movement" automatically gets me pegged as a whacko, but when you peel back and really see some of the stuff that is advocated, it's chilling. And yeah, I was looking into this stuff before Glenn Beck did, and it scared the hell out of me before he sensationalized everything and made it look silly.

I wish it were true that everyone loves this country, but it isn't.

Politics - ryoder - 08-13-2011

dcan I am totally on board with you. I also know for a fact that there are people residing in the USA who hate the USA and many more who don't hate the USA but think that the world would be a better place if the USA were knocked down a few pegs. Those that believe in a zero sum game look at our productivity and assume that all of our gains are ill-gotten. This is class warfare on a global scale. Its not enough that the politicians, media and university professors try to divide us into rich/poor white/black young/old but they also want to divide the entire world into countries that are considered the "haves" like the US and Western Europe and the "have nots" which are the rim countries. There is a dangerous worldwide socialism and wealth redistribution force at work here and it will always be pushing for global tyranny in the guise of global change.

I know this sounds crazy to many of you but it has been happening for many years. That Bill Ayers comment is spot on. He is a professor and is guilty of murder and terrorism. Take a look at Obama's preacher, the guy who married him. Look at his "not God bless America, God damn America!" speech. This guy is preaching insurrection from the pulpit.

Did you know that the UN has a Moammar Khadaffi Human Rights prize?
Switzerland's Nominee to the UN Human Rights Council and the Moammar Khaddafi Human Rights Prize - UN Watch

The UN requires constant watching as it is made up of people who do not have our best interests or the best interests of our allies in mind.

I think this poll would get a lot more participation if it were anonymous; a lot of people would probably participate if it didn't involve making their political views public here...

Come on Steve, don't be shy, you can participate in the vote too hilarious

Quote:*If any other of our presidents had doubled the national debt,

False. Obama did not double the debt in one year. The debt owed to the public was $6.3 trillion the day he took office. A year later, it was $7.8 trillion, and as of June 1, it was $9.7 trillion. That's a huge increase, to be sure, but nothing close to a doubling, either in Obama's first year or in his first two-and-a-half years. The same holds true when looking at the total outstanding debt, which includes both the public debt and money the government owes to itself. That figure was $10.6 trillion on Jan. 20, 2009; a year later, it was $12.3 trillion, and it’s $14.3 trillion today.

Quote:*If any other of our presidents had then proposed to double the debt again
Within 10 years, Would you have approved? *

Partly true. Obama's proposed 2012 budget would double the public debt over the next decade, from $9 trillion in fiscal 2010 to $18.4 trillion in 2019, according to projections by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office. The total debt would take a little longer to double; CBO's projection shows that happening by 2021. But since the debt didn't double in Obama's first year, he's not proposing to double it "again" as claimed.

For the record, the debt nearly doubled under President George W. Bush. Only in that sense could Obama accurately be accused of proposing to double the debt "again."
