The counselor just said I needed it so she signed me up for it, neglecting to inform me that you were expected to have a lot of background knowledge from at least high school chemistry(which I had none). I have enough basic knowledge to understand most of everything so far (I've always liked science). The issue is the sheer amount of work. If someone asks you to draw a picture of a tree in crayon every 5 minutes, it's not overly difficult. But if you're not allowed to do anything but draw pictures of trees then you're going to start to get bored. I keep drawing trees over here and the stack of blank paper just keeps getting taller and taller. Just watching the videos (without even trying to understand them) takes forever. And then there are 5-10 questions to answer after each video. Like what the heck is wrong with you people, what sadist came up with this course? Oh I completely feel you. I was hoping for 'do a content mastery and a quiz. Post on a message board.' I took one look at that crap and said "NOPE!" I've already got Solar System Astronomy, Biology through Straighterline, Environmental Science through Sophia... I was thinking maybe another proper college science might look nice on a transcript but.... just no. Chemistry was awful. I gave up. The irony is I definitely have the requisite background knowledge and study habits now to be successful at that course, but not enough time with all my other courses. I may come back when I finish my undergrad just to make that old 'F' go away for grad school applications(also for for personal accomplishment). RE: ASU credit for $99 until 08-17-2020! - cecilgambe7 - 08-29-2020 I'm curious ... How long will my ASU email account last? RE: ASU credit for $99 until 08-17-2020! - rachel83az - 08-29-2020 I was just thinking about the ASU email earlier. I think it's supposed to be (semi) permanent. I've been thinking about signing up to audit a class every so often just so the email doesn't get purged due to inactivity or something. RE: ASU credit for $99 until 08-17-2020! - utility - 08-29-2020 From what I've heard most schools purge the email addresses after about a year of inactivity or not being enrolled. This varies by school though. RE: ASU credit for $99 until 08-17-2020! - Rustydroid - 08-31-2020 Well I think that I'm going to have to drop Macroeconomics from ASU. I've taken this course before through my local community college and I was hoping to get a better grade. However the work load is a big high and its preventing me from spending more time with other courses. Also one question has stumped me on the first week so I hate to think what later weeks are like. The professor did mention that the second week is among the hardest material in the course. The question that stumped me I have not even been able to get an answer to through google or any other source. Human communications the short answers are graded and you need citations as well. I'm enjoying the programming class and CIS 105. RE: ASU credit for $99 until 08-17-2020! - rachel83az - 08-31-2020 Ouch! I was hoping to audit macroeconomics later for a better understanding beyond what Sophia provided. If it's that much work, I'm not sure about that - even for an audit. What question have you been unable to find anywhere? I am very curious now. I'm surprised at how little work there is each week for human communication. I think it was about 20 minutes of video for week 2 plus the textbook reading? RE: ASU credit for $99 until 08-17-2020! - Rustydroid - 08-31-2020 (08-31-2020, 03:00 PM)rachel83az Wrote: Ouch! Apart from the videos and reading you also have a lot of small work problems that you need to submit. I understand most of the material I may just have overloaded myself with classes. The problem that stumped me is on the quiz a chart is shown where you need to calculate percentages, easy enough. The part that got me is "what percentage of GDI was ambiguous components." for a certain quarter. Now I know GDI and GDP are revised a few times but I'm still not sure how and by extension I don't know how to calculate that "ambiguous" percentage. I'm thinking that its either workers or capital or both (or something else) added together then calculating the percentage from GDI. If I go back I'm sure I'll get the answer or once the time deadline for the quiz I'll get the right answer. Personally, I think Sophia.org's Macroeconomics and Microeconomics are very adequate for non-Economics and Business major students. Unless you work in a finance industry, you won't need more info beyond what Sohpia.org provides. I have taken microeconomics at an expensive private university 9 years ago but I've never needed much knowledge from it to make living. |
