A+ Certification and Other IT Certs Question - Calico - 01-31-2010 TMW2010 Wrote:I agree... I took both tests in under 15 minutes total. About 7 minutes per 90 question test. I took the same test, took me 40 minutes. I see no way possible someone could've completed those tests in 15 minutes. I had 15 years in the IT field at the time also. Another "I"m so Great" thread. This forum has seen a rash of these lately. Sometimes you have to separate the truth from the b.s. A+ Certification and Other IT Certs Question - Chebasaz - 01-31-2010 Marianne, Another field to look at when he graduates is being a contractor for the government. There are tons of tech jobs available with companies that provide IT services to the government, and some pay quite well. If he's going to be attending college online, he could do well to get a jump-start on his career by going this route. You don't meet too many 19 year olds that are making 35K+ a year. Another benefit is that he has the opportunity to gain a US security clearance. This opens other doors for employment. It also adds to his marketability and salary potential. Not all contracting jobs are in Iraq and Afghanistan. A lot are local to the US and others are pretty close by, like here in Cuba. I'm currently hiring Service Desk folks, but he's a little young and high school comes first. If he's interested in government contracting as a career choice, I can help point him towards some resources. By the way - If he's planning to go into IT, I'd pick Geek Squad over Staples. That year or two in Geek squad will translate nicely into resume experience when he graduates high school. Don't worry about the industry looking down on Geek Squad. A 40 year old with only two years worth of experience in IT as a geek squad tech I'd have doubts about. A high schooler having two years at Geek squad shows initiative, and hiring managers are always on the look out for that. Food for thought, hope it helps. It was 10 minutes for the first test and 15 minutes for the second test. For some reason I apparently locked in on the 15 minutes... And there were 70 questions per test, not 90. Thanks for rallying against my momentary hubris. :o eeya: |
