IC Flashcard Version Poll - sgloer - 07-01-2009

Hey Guys--

The new v2 came about based on the feedback of lots of InstantCert users, and we will continue to work with your feedback to try to improve the product for you. For now, a quick response to some concerns that were brought up in this thread:

For all of you that do not like audio, it is easily turned off by clicking the toggle that initially says "Reinforcement Mode". Click it two times and it will say "No Audio". We're also working on making that a one-time selection so that you don't have to turn it off every time you start a new set of flashcards.

For those of you that don't like typing--don't! Just answer the question in your head and press Enter to move on.

For those of you that think the new software is too slow, we're coming out with a Lite version that'll be stripped down for speed and optimized for readability and compatibility with various browsers.

For those of you that don't like the flashcard idea in general, our approach may not be for you! We're trying to teach you the basic fundamentals of a college course in the subject--not hand you a copy of the test. Based on how the CLEP exams are created and validated, if you know the fundamentals, you will be able to figure out enough answers to pass. It doesn't make any sense for us to mimic the multiple-choice format of the test because we're not trying to simulate the exam. If you can answer our fill-in-the-blank questions from memory, then recognizing answers on the multiple choice test will not be a problem.

Well I just want to say thank you steve and everyone at IC. Even though I am not a paying member right now as I am taking a break from testing, all my experiences with IC have been extremely positive. I am like a walking advertisement for Instantcert, whenever I hear that someone is planning on testing, I launch into my "you gotta use this website" speech.
Sorry to go off topic, but I just wanted to say that IC rocks, and no matter what version you prefer.
Thanks again!

Amazing. IC is the best! I look forward to all those improvements, because really...you can't beat having parchment on the main page of the Western Civ flashcards. Big Grin

Yea, The main page of the V2 flashcards are great!

And Steve,
I hope I'm not making it sound like I am extremely hard to please and hate all your work. I think it's great you listen to the subscribers!

Thanks, Steve. I owe my success on the Humanities CLEP to the IC cards and wished I could have used them on Analyzing Lit, American Lit and English Lit. I am a huge proponent of your site. I don't want to come off as a whiner. I did turn off the audio, but I just really have a hard time with sllllloooooowwww West Civ cards. It's wonderful that you are responsive and will bring out a Lite version for future V2 users.

Personally, I really like the new set. I like the new features, and if I want to skip the audio, I just turn it off.

Thanks for all you do, Steve! IC rocks!

Thanks, Steve, nice to know you are working on alternatives for all the ways we learn.

I, too, tell everyone I can about Instant Cert. In fact, the lady at my testing center has taken your handouts to give to people who come in asking for general information.

I'll be looking for V-light with pleasure.

Judy

I really like the new cards. I have used the audio and sometimes I turn it off, depending on how I feel like studying that day.

The information in the new flashcards have been amazing. I usually try to get over 90% on all the cards before taking the tests. With V2, I have taken both tests scoring around 80% and got some of the highest scores I've ever gotten!

Also, I really appreciate the flashcards versus multiple choice. It means I really have to KNOW the information... I can't just guess or recongize the right answer.

IC is great, especially Version 2. Thank you all so much!
