I'll stick with the cell. I'm in NYC. Try finding a pay phone that a) works, b) doesn't cost $.50-$1.00 per call) and c) isn't absolutely disgusting. Better to have a cell than walk or drive many blocks looking for an overpriced pay phone that may or may not give you menengitis or TB. Sorry to be gross, but that's how you feel after using a public pay phone these days.

I bought my first cell phone in 1989 for business reasons and had one up until last October. I cancelled my service when I lost my job and do not miss it or the monthly bill. I was never a fan of texting nor did I understand the need for it. I can wait to see someone to exchange information. If it is that urgent, I will call them. I now have less distractions and more time to do things without the cell phone attached to my hip.

Cell phones allow me to operate 24/7 without having to hire an answering service. I get more closed deals, and clients feel comfortable knowing that I am responsive to them.

Wow... just as I started to respond to this post, my cell phone rang! That was pretty funny.
Well, I can't live without my cell phone. I manage a 24-hour access women's fitness center and until this last month when a new owner took over, the phone was always forwarded to my cell phone. Which meant I could almost never turn it off and occasionally had to answer calls at 5:30 in the morning.
I'm also the Logistics Coordinator for a local organization and my cell number is plastered all over town.
Besides that, I keep in touch with my family and my mom and I talk all the time. So... yes, I use my cell phone a LOT. Could not live without it. Or at least... I'd be in big trouble if something happened to it.

I also use prepaid service. I'm not one of those people who uses their phone all the time; I pretty much just have it for emergencies. I've got AT&T's pay as you go, which works pretty similarly to T-Mobile's. I chose to have automatic payments setup that charge $25 every three months. My unused balance rolls over. I get a bonus added on after every hundred dollars' worth of payments. I have the security of having a cell phone when I actually need it, but for $25 payments every few months I barely even notice that I'm paying for it.

I can and can't live without it.
When I'm at work, I need it. But when I go home, I tell my people at work that I'm on the "No Nights and Weekends Phone Plan", So don't call after work.
All I have is incoming and outgoing calls, My text and email and everything else on my phone is disabled. People can call and talk to me if it's important.
