RE: University of Phoenix - ss20ts - 11-15-2024 https://www.spokesman.com/stories/2024/may/31/idahos-deadline-passes-to-purchase-university-of-p/ The deal wasn't completed on time according to their contract. Then it was extended until June 2025. https://www.kivitv.com/news/university-of-idaho-purchase-deal-with-university-of-phoenix-extended I would run from U of P. They still haven't cleaned up their act. They had to pay $191 million in fines for their crummy advertising just a few years ago. RE: University of Phoenix - GoBroncos95 - 11-15-2024 Well then, looks like I will not waste my time going there LOL. It has so many negatives compared to positives. I asked my employer and they will only cover University of Phoenix only since they are corporate partners. Looks like HAU is still on the map for me. RE: University of Phoenix - bjcheung77 - 11-15-2024 Hold your horses, you can take classes at U of Phoenix and transfer to HAU. If you can get the MBA as a freebie or any other degrees close to free from work such as the MS Info System or something else, do what you can and want. You can transfer a few classes to HAU or another institution to speed up the finish and get the other fully paid for (or close to free) degrees from U of Phoenix. Furthermore, you can take the ASU 15 grad credits for $500 or so (if that has fully integrated and process of getting transcripts is possible). Their reputation is awful and many people in a variety of industries look down at their degrees. Free is great, but at what cost to your personal reputation? They've been trying to sell themselves to a state school for a long time. They're running out of $$$$. Plenty of other people here promote dubious and for-profit schools. While I would not go to U of P, I know many people who have over a couple of decades and the education seemed fine. Just like any of the many generic online MBA programs out there. Its RA accredited, that's all that matters. (11-15-2024, 07:16 PM)bjcheung77 Wrote: Hold your horses, you can take classes at U of Phoenix and transfer to HAU. It's no different than any of the million online MBA programs out there. Unless you are going to some T20 program, a MBA is just checking the box (11-15-2024, 06:07 PM)Jonathan Whatley Wrote: An agreement was announced in 2023 by which the University of Phoenix would be sold to the University of Idaho. Although the announcement didn't include any change of name, there might be a rebrand in its future, like other for-profits that have sold to and become affiliates of brick-and-mortar state university systems (Kaplan becoming Purdue Global, Ashford becoming University of Arizona Global Campus, Grantham becoming University of Arkansas Grantham). Its odd that sketchy schools like Kaplan/Ashford/Brandman got the greenlight to become PGU/UAGC etc but Phoenix is a bridge too far lol RE: University of Phoenix - bjcheung77 - 11-16-2024 Decide what you want, I would do the UOP MBA plus MSIS if at all possible, it's for the learning and possible transfer credits to another program if you ever wanted to get a better degree elsewhere or ladder up to a doctoral degree. RA is RA, it's accredited, you'll have met requirements for doctoral studies, it's like Shaq... He did his MBA at UOP back in 2010 or something like that and then moved onto his doctoral degree. I may do the MS Info Systems depending if it is entirely free to get if possible! Also great idea using their MBA Courses to transfer into HAU, I may end up doing that. UoP's reputation is in the toilet these days. They're paying million dollar class action settlements right and left and practically begging door to door for a state university system to buy them out. Awful name to have on your resume. Might actually make things harder if you have to leave your current company. I 100% agree with this take. Your resume would literally be better off without U. Phoenix on it.If I was in your shoes, I would do most of the free Phoenix degree, then transfer as many credits as possible into HAU or any other program with high transfer acceptance. Awful name to have on your resume. Might actually make things harder if you have to leave your current company. Most people don’t live terminally online and U of P is well known in the civilian world. HAU is literally about as unknown as you can get. You do realize most of the for profits are begging for state schools to buy them right? Purdue, UMass, Arizona… RE: University of Phoenix - ss20ts - 11-19-2024 Many people prefer unknown colleges because there's no controversy surrounding them. U of P is a very well known online only college but there are still people who are against online education so that brings with it its own challenges. Add on the controversies and poor opinion many people have of the place and it may not be the wisest option for some people. PUG does not have the same reputation. Could be because Kaplan was not anywhere as well known as U of P. Also people think highly of Purdue. RE: University of Phoenix - Hotdogman1 - 11-19-2024 I know that there are universities with generous transfer policies (~15-18 credits or half of the masters program), but I was under the assumption that it was still difficult to actually get the courses to transfer over. If OP decides to go to HAU, wouldn't they still pay the same 3k tuition even if they transfer courses from UoP? What's the point in taking any UoP courses in that situation? (It also looks like HAU only accepts 25% of a degree) If OP decides to transfer out, the cheapest masters accepting 18 credit hours in a 30 hour program I'm aware of is Jacksonville State University’s Integrated Studies (Master of Arts). Assuming they accept 18 credits from UoP: $428 per credit hour * 12 credit hours = $5,136 not including any other charges and you graduate with a MA in Integrated Studies. Honestly, I don’t think any of this matters since we don’t know OP’s budget or actual goals for the degree. If the argument is UoP vs HAU, I choose WGU MBA. |
