RE: New here; intrigued, slightly confused and overwhelmed - jg_nuy - 03-19-2024 You can find the class codes and matching descriptions below https://www.acenet.edu/National-Guide/Pages/Organization.aspx?oid=76099b28-9016-e811-810f-5065f38bf0e1&k=(NGStatusCodeOWSTEXT%3D%22Active%22) RE: New here; intrigued, slightly confused and overwhelmed - LevelUP - 03-19-2024 FYI, DSST Ethics in Tech will transfer to WGU for the required course Ethics in Technology, bringing the total transfer to 87 credits. However, I don't recommend you spend the time and money on this since the Ethics course reportedly is easy at WGU, requiring only 1-3 days to complete. Discounting GE, you would only have 7 technical courses to complete before you hit the capstone if you max transfer, so it's definitely possible to finish in one term. RE: New here; intrigued, slightly confused and overwhelmed - bjcheung77 - 03-19-2024 WGU accepts Canadians, but last I recall, they only accepted from certain areas, such as specific cities within Alberta, BC, Quebec, Ontario. It's still a good idea to investigate and make sure they accept you, I recommend going for their BS then ladder to their MS afterwards. If for some reason or another that they don't accept individuals from Edmonton (I know a few people from Calgary who got in though), you can always go the TESU route and do a double degree - BACS/BS CIS and max the ROI/Value in getting a double degree for a little big more work. You should be able to look them up here: https://www.acenet.edu/National-Guide/Pages/Organization.aspx?oid=76099b28-9016-e811-810f-5065f38bf0e1 RE: New here; intrigued, slightly confused and overwhelmed - jobojoe285 - 03-20-2024 Thank you everyone for the info and resources! I ended up calling WGU an enrollment counselor who was very helpful. She told me that my province + city are approved so I can apply for admission. She also said as long as I have proof of high school graduation (can also give my college transcript; she said it's fine even it's old, they may still take a look for credits) and proof of completion for a related certificate or 300+ level course, my admission will be accepted. I am excited but also a little bit afraid due to the competency method of pass / fail they use as well as having to take some classes that have always been weaknesses for me, however, being able to attempt a bachelor and beyond is exciting. I may look at masters too, to be honest. If I can overlap and transfer some of the courses to master as well, why not. RE: New here; intrigued, slightly confused and overwhelmed - rachel83az - 03-20-2024 You might want to set your long-term sights on the Georgia Tech OMCS. It's not an easy program, but it's inexpensive and GT is a good school. If you find WGU to be too difficult for you to realistically complete a degree, do as much as you can during your term and transfer to TESU later. RE: New here; intrigued, slightly confused and overwhelmed - davewill - 03-20-2024 @jobjoe285, You don't mention how old or how far out of school you are, but my observation of returning adult students as been that they are often much better students (and more motivated) the second time around. People who "can't write" or "can't do math" end up finding that if they put in the effort required, that they CAN do these courses and master the material. I recommend you try to put aside your insecurities and just take each course as it comes. Put in the study time, and pay attention to rubrics and instructions so you do the assignments correctly and I bet you'll find that you will get consistent results. RE: New here; intrigued, slightly confused and overwhelmed - jobojoe285 - 03-20-2024 I think I would definitely have to study some more in some courses but I don't see why I can't do it. If for some reason I just can't, I will keep in mind that I could transfer off to TESU, however, for the moment, I do not accept failure. I feel like today is easier to learn things even though I am older, especially when you can make chatGPT your personal trainer (although it can definitely give wrong answers, especially in programming). Older but I no longer think and process the same way I did when I was younger. @davewill I am 31 and while I'm not particularly old, I have been out of school for around 11 years. Having said that, I also have more life, real world, training / studying for job experiences. Like you said, I think I could do it. I have some insecurities for sure, but if I don't try, I will never know. I plan on focusing hard on my weakness courses (which will definitely be the english ones) and will do whatever I can. I am less insecure than when I was younger tho. Now I could use chatGPT to help explain various things. Either way, I will take it 1 step at a time with the goal to graduate this WGU program. I think it could be quite useful for my career and life. (03-20-2024, 12:46 PM)davewill Wrote: @jobjoe285, By the way, I noticed your signature. Does TESU also have a bachelor of software engineering? How was it for you? No, just the CS and IT degrees. They also offer a EE, but it doesn't lend itself to our methods. I found doing the CS very satisfying, but it was a very different time, when the alt credit for CS simply wasn't available. I had to do PLA and several TESU courses to get it done. These days you can just power through Sophia and Study.com which is much easier. RE: New here; intrigued, slightly confused and overwhelmed - bjcheung77 - 03-20-2024 @jobojoe285, Your homework for today, is to create two spreadsheets, one for WGU BS of your choice and one for TESU BACS/CIS by following the templates on the WIKI. Compare each and complete remaining credits required for max transfer that will go towards both institutions. The reason is, if you switch degrees or institutions, the classes you take towards either will work for both institutions! You won't be doing any extra work as you're going to take classes from Coursera, Sophia.org, Study.com, etc for max transfer anyways. |
