This, to me, is particularly wild. I get an online school not having a mascot , as in team name (no sports, no in person interaction) although I think there are very good reasons to have one (builds online community, sense of identity for students and alumni). Having a costumed mascot!? For an online school with no sports!?!? Why!?!?

They're not even the only ones. CSU Global has Goldie D. Eagle, who sometimes attends in person events: https://csuglobal.edu/blog/happy-bird-day-goldie-join-celebration-app-fee-waiver

Not a school, but Duolingo has a costumed mascot. So why not an online school?

TESU is starting up an esports team, and while I'm not interested in esports themselves, I'm strongly considering offering them unsolicited branding advice.

TESU is doing a lot of work right now with the university's image, positioning, and services/offerings. You've seen the eSports team and career services, but there's more in the pipeline.

Mascots

1, I believe online colleges should have mascots.
2. I believe the mascot should be something fierce like a snake, bat, tarantula, etc. to motivate students.
3. I believe each student should be sent a free mascot in the mail in an unmarked package as a surprise.
4. I believe...

I suppose there's no reason to not have a costumed mascot, and like with Duolingo it can be a funny marketing bit. It was just kind of a "Huh? What?" moment

A college could send each student a mascot costume and they could be required to wear it as they are proctored online during the final exam (and filmed). Can you not hear the proctor telling the student to move the camera around so that they can tell that no one else is in the room, or wearing the mascot costume, during the exam?

Charter Oak State students and alumni are called Acorns. Alumni updates are called "Acorns in Action" in communications. There's even a costumed squirrel mascot named Oaklee.

I had no idea! This rocks! It doesn't look like I can edit the original post post anymore to reflect this but I would if I could.
