RE: ungraded final after 11 days? - ss20ts - 08-03-2023 Well seeing that it's Dorsey, you're just going to have to wait. She's not just a professor at UMPI. She's also the Vice Chancellor of the entire U of M system so she's a very busy woman and she has a lot of students. If she is so busy, hire an adjunct professor to take on the course load. Students are paying $1400 to complete as many courses as they want in the given 8 week-period. They should not be stumped by an overworked faculty member, because they simply refuse to hire at the rate of YourPace's expansion and growth. It is unfair to push excuses when we are paying to attend their university – it is their job. 72 hours is more than enough time to review and grade, if that timeline cannot be met, it is clear that there is a manning issue. Just finished my last final today. WOOOOHOO! That said, there is one final that has been sitting, ungraded for 11 days. I've reached out twice about it with no response. I'm concerned about having the time to redo the final if it gets returned to me as ungraded. Is there a time frame as to when finals need to be graded like the milestones? I'm getting really nervous that it won't get graded until the last few days, or even at all before the term ends. Then I'll have to do another term just because I didn't get a failed final back early enough for a second attempt. Any insight? BUS 415: Operations Management ??? Anyway, I think I'll submit mine as final. Ummmm....Dorsey is the one who created the YourPace program. Without her, it wouldn't exist so no UMPI isn't going to just push her aside. UMPI also doesn't have a ton of adjuncts. Hiring people in that area of Maine to be adjunct professors is not nearly as easy it sounds. It's a VERY rural area and the population just isn't there. If we are given 2 attempts we should be given the time to actually complete those attempts. While I understand that everything cannot be instant it doesn't make sense that feedback could take multiple weeks. It is an 8 week, CBE set up. One final should definitely not take multiple weeks to be returned. I understand your point; however, if it is too difficult to hire adjuncts, they should not admit more students than they can handle. Adjunct professors do not have to live in Maine to work for the YourPace online program. Their logistical planning is subpar. These terms are 8-weeks, there is absolutely no reason it should take 40%+ of the term to receive a final grade. It transitions "YourPace" to "TheirPace", which I would consider as false advertising. Well, actually they do need to live in Maine as the U of M system has determined that they do need to be in state. If you look at the positions that are open, anytime an adjunct position for YourPace has been listed, they are requiring you to be a Maine resident or willing to relocate to Maine on your dime. This is a state university so there are legal issues to contend with. Don't get me wrong. YourPace needs a lot more staffing than it currently has. I hope with the move to Brightspace that some issues will be resolved. RE: ungraded final after 11 days? - Tswede - 08-03-2023 I would think though that this situation shouldn't stop them from opening another class for you. It shouldn't slow you down if Jessica/Cody open a new class because you have submitted the final already. The milestones are the bigger issue because those are the ones that keep you from reaching the final assessment stage. Once the Rough Draft is submitted, that's when you request another class. Don't wait for it to be graded to request another class. |
