Well seeing that it's Dorsey, you're just going to have to wait. She's not just a professor at UMPI. She's also the Vice Chancellor of the entire U of M system so she's a very busy woman and she has a lot of students.

Unacceptable on her part. Vice Chancellor or not, that is a fault on UMPI. If she is so busy, hire an adjunct professor to take on the course load. Students are paying $1400 to complete as many courses as they want in the given 8 week-period. They should not be stumped by an overworked faculty member, because they simply refuse to hire at the rate of YourPace's expansion and growth. It is unfair to push excuses when we are paying to attend their university – it is their job. 72 hours is more than enough time to review and grade, if that timeline cannot be met, it is clear that there is a manning issue.

That said, there is one final that has been sitting, ungraded for 11 days. I've reached out twice about it with no response. I'm concerned about having the time to redo the final if it gets returned to me as ungraded. Is there a time frame as to when finals need to be graded like the milestones? I'm getting really nervous that it won't get graded until the last few days, or even at all before the term ends. Then I'll have to do another term just because I didn't get a failed final back early enough for a second attempt. Any insight?

Have you emailed your professor to let them know that your Final Assessment is waiting for grading? If you have, email both Jessica and Cody so they are aware of the situation and will try to contact the professor. The professor maybe on vacation as it is summer. This delay won't require you to spend an additional session at UMPI unless you fail the course. If you submit a Rough Draft and made the requested changes, then you should be fine. Grades aren't posted right away and you won't see them until the session is over. They are due 7 days after the session ends.
I said I reached out to the professor twice. I cc'd Cody on both emails then emailed Cody separately. I got no response from the professor. Cody told me there's nothing to be done and this professor just takes a long time to grade. Literally my only concern is that I DID fail the final and that I will not have the opportunity to do a second attempt before the term ends.

Thank you. I cc'd the success coach in both of my emails to the professor then emailed him separately after I got no response from the professor. He basically said she takes a long time to grade and there's nothing for me to do. I really wanted to get as much as I can out of the way as early as possible because 1) I have more time in July than August to work on courses; and 2) I wanted to leave enough time for 2nd attempts if needed or any other hiccups.

Yes, BLS with management minor. At this point in my life I just needed to get something done. With the help of this forum I was able to do that. I do not have any more needed competencies to take. So once this competency moves from "active" to "completed" all of my requirements will be completed.

Actually Cody explained to me when I inquired it's 72 hours, not 72 business hours.  Either way though 11 days is way excessive and you should involve Cody.  Cody encouraged me to reach out to him and the professor in a joint email after 72 hours including weekends.

Cody just told me there was nothing I can do about it and just said this professor takes a while. That was it. I cc'd Cody on both emails I sent the professor (one at 72 business hours and another sometime after that). I then sent Cody a personal email asking what to do and he said do nothing.
Would it happen to be Dorsey or Matthews? I had to prompt both of them for grading but they did it eventually. Dorsey is particularly busy right now.
The only time I really had an issue with something I cc’d the director of yourpace Susan Chang susan.chang@maine.edu and my issue was resolved within hours on a Saturday.

Hahaha yes, it's Dorsey. Maybe I've now sent her 3 emails, so maybe I'll email a 4th time and cc the director. Thank you.

BUS 415: Operations Management ??? Anyway, I think I'll submit mine as final.

Ummmm....Dorsey is the one who created the YourPace program. Without her, it wouldn't exist so no UMPI isn't going to just push her aside. UMPI also doesn't have a ton of adjuncts. Hiring people in that area of Maine to be adjunct professors is not nearly as easy it sounds. It's a VERY rural area and the population just isn't there.

Totally agree. If we are given 2 attempts we should be given the time to actually complete those attempts. While I understand that everything cannot be instant it doesn't make sense that feedback could take multiple weeks. It is an 8 week, CBE set up. One final should definitely not take multiple weeks to be returned.

I understand your point; however, if it is too difficult to hire adjuncts, they should not admit more students than they can handle. Adjunct professors do not have to live in Maine to work for the YourPace online program. Their logistical planning is subpar. These terms are 8-weeks, there is absolutely no reason it should take 40%+ of the term to receive a final grade. It transitions "YourPace" to "TheirPace", which I would consider as false advertising.

Well, actually they do need to live in Maine as the U of M system has determined that they do need to be in state. If you look at the positions that are open, anytime an adjunct position for YourPace has been listed, they are requiring you to be a Maine resident or willing to relocate to Maine on your dime. This is a state university so there are legal issues to contend with. Don't get me wrong. YourPace needs a lot more staffing than it currently has. I hope with the move to Brightspace that some issues will be resolved.

RE: ungraded final after 11 days? - Tswede - 08-03-2023

I would think though that this situation shouldn't stop them from opening another class for you. It shouldn't slow you down if Jessica/Cody open a new class because you have submitted the final already. The milestones are the bigger issue because those are the ones that keep you from reaching the final assessment stage.

It won't stop anyone from being able to request another class. Once the Rough Draft is submitted, that's when you request another class. Don't wait for it to be graded to request another class.
