RE: TESU BA Double Major - bjcheung77 - 07-11-2023 Hey, I was wondering what your BALS-NSM would look like, you can take all CS/CIS courses instead of having specific courses to take for the BALS-CS. You just need to have all the course requirements completed for both degrees, the overlap is not much of a worry as long as your free electives are arts & sciences, you don't have to do 42 credits for the second major at all as long as the requirements are all met... I have attached the evaluation for the BALS-NSM. I think I have more than enough 3000/4000 credits for the 24 credits outside of the concentration. So basically if I am understanding correctly, I could take a whole bunch of lower level CS/Math/Science classes to meet the concentration? BALS Concentration and Foreign Language questions - Niketay - 07-12-2023 Hello all. Is it possible to add an undergraduate certificate in addition to, for example, a BA in Foreign Language/Spanish? I also have a separate question regarding the BALS and concentrations: If you meet the UL credit requirements in the Liberal Studies portion, do the concentration credits also have to be UL? or can they be fulfilled with LL credits? I will attach my current evaluations for viewing. I was considering a double major possibly with a BALS and Foreign Language. My Eng Comp II, Ethics, and Sociology classes are in progress currently. Just seeing if knocking out a BALS w/concentration quickly is possible (and possibly a Foreign Language degree). Also looking for reccomendations for fast credit to fulfil those concentrations. RE: TESU BA Double Major - bjcheung77 - 07-12-2023 @Niketay, There may have been a recent change to the number of undergraduate degrees you can get at TESU - Previously, You can have a max of 2 Associates, 2 Bachelors at TESU, you can still get any number of undergraduate certificates as long as you have the credits for each requirement fulfilled. If you have the time, you can review the signatures of a few members who have a second degree from TESU, they have added Associates/Certificates to get the max benefit. Since you're military, you can use the TECEPS for residency and hit the requirements for these certs, associates, bachelors. An example that no one has done yet, you can get the BACS/BA Foreign Language (Spanish) double major, the BSBA Entrepreneurship and International Business double AOS, add two associates (ASNSM CS/Math, AA Arts or the ASBA), add the CIS cert, CS cert, and add any extra certs you would like, such as Operations Management or Psych. I highly recommend NOT wasting energy, money, time on anything extra, I would only recommend getting the associates and certs, if you don't have to take any extra courses. Having said that, some people are just 1 course away from these offerings, thus they need to decide if it's worth doing or not, I usually recommend it for the ROI/Value. Back in 2017 is when we started to 'hack' TESU, eriehiker (who already had a BA, MAT) went on a credential spree, 5 business certs, 2 ASNSM CS & Math, and the BSBA Accounting/CIS double major. There are reasons for taking courses and these extras, some are valid reasons of personal enrichment or changing professions, it really depends on you. Actually, there were people who hacked the double associates/double bachelors before that, see the WIKI... 2017 is when I hacked mine and noticed eriehiker did too. Over the years, people added the associates/certs to a single Bachelors as they already had the credits for them, such as Supermind in 2019, BALS-Psych, ASNSM Math, Psych Cert. Very interesting! I will check into that. Was curious to for the NSM concentration on the BALS, if I have 24 UL credits applied to the liberal arts portion, would LL credits in math and science suffice for the concentration? The reason I ask is because to get the certificates by themselves, you need a certain amount of UL classes. But in the BALS format, it just says a certain amount of 42 total credits have to be UL. So in the BALS format would LL courses suffice for concentrations? (if the rest of the AOS UL requirement is met). Something like: 24 UL Liberal Arts credits 18 LL NSM courses RE: TESU BA Double Major - bjcheung77 - 07-12-2023 Nope, it has to follow through with the requirements as I mentioned... You can only re-use an overlap of 9 credits from your other major (9 UL Spanish), thus you need at least 9 UL in NSM (CS, CIS, any math/science you want to take from alternative credit options or through TECEPs), the rest can be all lower level arts/sciences. So, if you copy/paste the requirements it'll show as this: Foreign Language: 45 Required: 21 Electives: 9 Humanities: 12 Capstone: 3 LS-NSM: 45 Concentration Required: 18 Electives: 24 Capstone: 3 The easiest way to think of this is, the LS-NSM electives can be anything arts/sciences that you have in the free electives area of the previous major or in the 'other courses' below the degree... You're just going to get a little creative in getting the requirements by making sure to take more alternative arts/sciences from ACE/NCCRS providers. Before they updated the catalog for making changes to Gen Ed 45, Major 45, Electives 30, previously some degrees were Gen Ed 60, Major 30, Electives 30, thus when you swap the second major with the free electives of the first major, you can get a double major with exactly 120 credits! It'll look like this, Gen Ed 60, Major 1 30, Major 2 30. Are there limits of credit overlap with graduating with an AAS and BA at the same time? Would I have to pay the credit waiver fee just just one time to graduate with both if I choose to just just transfer in the rest of the courses to TESU? Or a separate fee for both degrees? RE: TESU BA Double Major - allvia - 07-12-2023 The ASNSM in Computer Science has no capstone - https://www.tesu.edu/heavin/asnsm/computer-science RE: TESU BA Double Major - Niketay - 07-12-2023 (07-12-2023, 08:06 PM)allvia Wrote: The ASNSM in Computer Science has no capstone - https://www.tesu.edu/heavin/asnsm/computer-scienceI just looked into it. It seems they have split that particular degree up into 3 degrees: AS in CS AS in Biology AS in Mathematics I am very close to having the AS in CS done, just a couple of courses and you’re right about having no capstone. I imagine an AS in CS is preferable to the AAS in Computer Studies. RE: TESU BA Double Major - bjcheung77 - 07-12-2023 Essentially, since you're military, for residency purposes, you should take 6 TECEPs for 18 credits, then take the Cornerstone/Capstone for the final 6 credits to get 24 total, everything else should be transferred in. If you have the extra energy, money, time to complete other courses, you can as long as it's part of the degree requirements. If you're going for the BALS-CS or NSM, you can take the courses required for the AS CS/Math to hit the LL requirements! |
