I have contacted Metropolia and will give feedback as soon as I have a response. Also note that the program is worth 180 ECTS, which in RA credits (if directly converted) would be around 90 RA credits, which means it wouldn't be the equivalent to a 4-year bachelors degree in the USA.(10-28-2022, 10:34 AM)rachel83az Wrote:(10-28-2022, 09:57 AM)Cofffeee Wrote: Checked Metropolia - If you're looking at cheap master degrees, definitely go check out the graduate school discussion thread. An honorable mentions would be the ENEB MBA for less than $300. I also recently did research for someone in regards to an MS Information Technology Management degree at UNISA for $800. Sorry, I worded my prior post incorrectly. The degree would be 579€ for EU citizens/residents and 10000€+ for the rest of the world. If you are an EU citizen, all Finnish degrees are completely free. No cost. (Maybe a couple hundred euro per year as an administrative fee.) If you are not an EU citizen, they can range from fairly cheap to quite costly. RE: Additional BACS/BSBA CIS combined plan - bjcheung77 - 10-29-2022 For those looking into the Finnish courses and planning a degree for this, TESU may be the only option due to them taking ACEI academic evaluations from the list of universities we regularly post threads about, it may work with other institutions that have even less flexibility in transfer and a lesser maximum. It really depends on the student and their needs, the Finnish courses are great for the experience or learning, but may not fully work for the 'transfer' if you want to ladder up to a masters elsewhere (especially if you're looking at a more competitive degree offering). Create an action plan and have a backup... You also want to look at your end goal, I suggest this route for those doing a double degree at TESU so you can use TECEPS or other RA options in addition to the 16 credit residency. You may want to review the WIKi as it mentions this point and this last post here: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Best-Finnish-RA-source-of-credits RE: Additional BACS/BSBA CIS combined plan - rachel83az - 10-31-2022 (10-28-2022, 07:34 PM)MNomadic Wrote: Sorry to ask an unrelated question but how are the Metropolia courses compared to something like ASU ULC? I don't really need any more undergrad credits but some of those courses do look interesting, cheap, and useful. So, they activated my "right to study" (enrollment) pretty much first thing on Monday morning. If you have a HAKA login from XAMK, you apparently don't even have to do the ID verification thing. They send you the link, you log in. Done. IT Services Sales & Marketing - This is in the standard Moodle environment. Their Moodle is a bit different than XAMK's Moodle/other schools' Moodles (slightly more customized?), but it is still just Moodle. The course content is very much like many XAMK courses: read the provided PDFs or academic articles, take the exam(s). For this course, there are assignments listed, but the assignment is "read the lesson contents, use the discussion forum if desired". I think the exam is pass/fail. The other courses I signed up for are actually hosted on https://edugametion.fi/ Technically, I think you can sign up without going through the Metropolia site, but I wouldn't do that if you actually want credit. Go through the Metropolia site and wait for them to send you the activation email. These are NOT Moodle (maybe a heavily, heavily modified Moodle? but I don't think so). I'm not sure what they are. Perhaps shocking nobody, the pages are all very gamified-looking. "Game Business" has you creating a business plan. There is a LOT of reading for this one. Perhaps even more reading than the IT Services Sales & Marketing. I like what I see so far. I will be signing up for more Metropolia classes once I'm done with these. The "degree program of information technology" at metropolia through open UAS studies is not an actual Bachelors degree. It is a pathway to the BS IT degree by Metropolia, but the program itself is not equivalent to a degree. RE: Additional BACS/BSBA CIS combined plan - bjcheung77 - 10-31-2022 For the learning, experience, and the possibility of transfer credits, I would work on these courses from Metropolia and other Finnish universities, not only for the purpose for transferring credits though... Basically, it's a really good option for a very comparable price point, it is like getting the Coursera Plus membership for a year and getting all the ACE credits for Business/IT certs, or all you can do Sophia.org with a 4-month subscription... RE: Additional BACS/BSBA CIS combined plan - Cofffeee - 11-07-2022 I have update- the BS IT after the mentioned path is fully online. "once you have completed these 180 credits, which costs your 579 euros. If you are an EU/ETA area citizen, the degree itself is free for you. So, no cost there. If you are from outside EU, then you have to pay a tuition free which is 10 000 euros per year. Since after 180 credits, you have only remaining 60 credits which are 1 year's studies." RE: Additional BACS/BSBA CIS combined plan - bjcheung77 - 11-07-2022 WOW, that's awesome for those in the EU, you can get the BSIT practically free... it's a very good deal for the first 180 credits at just 579 euros though for international students outside of the EU. Paying the 10K euro would be a tad too much for the final year when you can get an entire degree using alternative credit granting methods with institutions we recommend on this board. True, but some people are worried about having so much alt credit on a transcript. It's generally an unfounded worry. But, if you have concerns, paying the additional $2-3k for a 100% online no-alt-credit degree that can be completed in as few as 2 years sounds like a good deal. It seems like it might be at least slightly easier than Purdue Global's BSIT which requires at least a full paper for every single quarter credit (so, 45 papers at minimum). Students will need to run their own cost/benefit analysis, but it's nice to have this as another option! So after doing the 180 credits online the rest of 60 credits can also be acquired online and you don't need to be in Finland to get the bachelors degree? Also i read the wiki that contrary to what Metropolia says you dont need Finnish personal identity code to register? If $2-3k is not an issue , how would you compare this Bachelors in IT degree to BA CS degree from TESU? |
