Someone pretty savvy there was wondering where the college's IT people were, when this ransomware attack happened. As he sees it (and I agree) the school's networks may have been improperly configured, if an attack like this could get into several systems simultaneously and steal info from each. Some of these ransomware attacks are hitting third party software that the colleges are using. They don't have any control over those. Same with the hospitals. My local hospital was hit twice in 1 year by ransomware. There again it was a third party vendor's software that had issues. Microsoft and Apple release updates all the time because of holes that are discovered that ransomware can attack. If you're up to no good you will always find a way in somewhere. |
