You're welcome, I like having a laptop as a desktop replacement and a second monitor. This is much easier than having two windows open as I have to keep clicking a window to see what's there. I hate viewing multiple tabs on a laptop the same way, when I can have a second screen. Overall much faster in multi-tasking than just one screen.

Great question @Sara143! I am just about to start this course tomorrow and it'll be my first one so I was a bit worried about it.

@bjcheung77 - You mentioned the milestone is open book, which is fantastic! Is it timed? And can you complete part of it and save your work and then come back to finish the rest later? Thanks so much!

All Sophia Milestones are timed. You can't start it and come back later unless you're still in the time left. I mean you can take a bathroom break if you have enough left but I wouldn't go grocery shopping and plan on finishing the Milestone.

@Sara143, I have been getting some PM from you and I don't know how to help you further.  For these type of questions, it's best NOT to PM me.  You can create posts/threads asking for help, so others can try to explain things clearly and differently. The more you ask, the more you're confusing yourself as you are not listening, reading, or even searching for the answers.

Please review what is said on the entire thread again.  It's been over a year and you do not know what "open book" means... If you still have issues with what an 'open book' exam is, then review the info below over and over again, and the Wiki Link & Youtube video at the bottom will help you out.

Recap post #5: Remember that Sophia tests are OPEN BOOK. This means that you are allowed to look up things while you are taking the exams. You do not have to remember everything.

Post #7: Yes, that's what is meant by "open book." You can look things up during the exam.

Post #10: Essentially for Sophia.org and other providers we suggest, it's a good idea to invest a second monitor. For example, I use a laptop and a second monitor, the laptop I use for doing the assignments, quizzes, and the second monitor I use for reviewing/searching the EBooks/PDF files.

Post #12: You're welcome, I like having a laptop as a desktop replacement and a second monitor. This is much easier than having two windows open as I have to keep clicking a window to see what's there. I hate viewing multiple tabs on a laptop the same way, when I can have a second screen. Sara143 Wrote:Hi , Sophia exams are unprotected but still I don’t have anyone to help me out. I study but at same time I get anxious during exam. Is there anyway I can get help? I talked at Sophia and they told me they are open book . What is that means? Thanks

Here's my answer to you again, it hasn't changed since last year: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-Milestones-at-Sophia-pls-need-help-US-history

Yes I still remember but how come the other computer help me out? I tried one time but there are sites who wants $ for membership. I don’t mind to pay but I don’t know am I allow to do that or not. Thanks for your prompt reply.

You just don't get it... It's not another computer helping you out, it's using a second screen for you to search your answers. So, instead of using a book, you use a second screen to google, read the pdf documents, videos, slides, whatever else Sophia.org has for the course.

If you have three monitors, it's like reading 3 books for your answers, same thing when it's an open book exam, you have all your resources online, review that on the second screen when you take the exam on the first screen.

It's VERY simple if you know what I'm talking about. Just think of the second screen as your answer book, use it to search Sophia.org's course for answers to those questions, have all the links, pdfs, documents, open!

I am still not getting . How the second monitor help me out? I hope I understand what you are saying. I tried with second monitor but there is site who has answers but they want me to pay.
It’s confusing

Note: You are getting confused because you're not looking at what I am telling you. Forget the second monitor, forget the other pay website, forget everything for a moment and don't even think of using a laptop or computer, read carefully. What you're trying to do is pay someone to do the exams for you, or go to a website to have someone provide you answers. That is NOT what I told you about, it's like me telling you one thing and you're doing something completely different.

#1 Let's go back to pen and paper. And here's your math quiz, first question.
A) 1+1=11
B) 1+1=2
C) 1+1=1+1
D) 1+1=IDK
Open Book means, you can grab your notes or a textbook to show you how to do the additions properly.

#2 Now, pretend we are using a laptop. Forget the second monitor, use your only laptop or your desktop with 1 monitor.
A) 2+2=22
B) 2+2=4
C) 2+2=2+2
D) 2+2=IDK
Open book on a laptop means, you can use another tab to see a different website for help, to understand the formula.

Now, pretend you have a laptop and a second monitor, you get the same question as #2, but instead I don't use another tab/window.
I like to have that second tab/window on my second monitor, it's my preference, it has nothing to do with a website and paying for answers!
I don't know how you can get that confused with me telling you to go to a pay site to get answers?!
It just reminds me of this 2+2=22 Youtube video we had last year or two ago, it's NOT funny.
