Similar to Google Docs, except actual MS formatting. They do offer it for free. It still downloads a significant amount of Office onto your computer. It's not 100% online. RE: Computer / Starting Your Pace March 14 - jsd - 02-06-2022 rachel83az is saying skip the download entirely and use the online version (Office 365), which you'll have access to with whatever license UMPI is providing for the downloadable version RE: Computer / Starting Your Pace March 14 - ss20ts - 02-06-2022 (02-06-2022, 12:51 PM)jsd Wrote: rachel83az is saying skip the download entirely and use the online version (Office 365), which you'll have access to with whatever license UMPI is providing for the downloadable version Not sure if that's an option or how it works. I have the online version from a Microsoft subscription and it still downloaded a significant amount onto my MacBook. It's not 100% online. Is there a version that's only accessible online? RE: Computer / Starting Your Pace March 14 - jsd - 02-06-2022 UMPI uses Office 365 for their student/faculty email, I'm assuming they don't just limit students to Outlook 365. Yes, I'm using it with my GA Tech credentials right now on a virtual machine that does not have a downloaded Office client. I just signed in directly at https://www.office.com/ Should be similar with your UMPI credentials. I've never heard about this. We were given a link to use and it downloads whatever it needs. Are you logged into something like Canvas or Blackboard? That's how you could access Office when I was at LSU. We don't have any platform like those at UMPI. ETA: I just tried logging into Office on office.com and it denied my MaineStreet login. MY UMPI mail is through Google. I don't use Outlook for it. Never have. RE: Computer / Starting Your Pace March 14 - jsd - 02-06-2022 Here's actually a University of Maine System site that talks about how all U of Maine System (including UMPI) students have access to 365, and provides a tutorial of 365 products: https://sites.google.com/maine.edu/umpi-elearning-hub/other-umpi-tech-tools/ms-office-365-tutorials?authuser=0 Quote:The online version (Office 365) may also be used, if you are unable to download on your personal device. I tried. There's an icon for MS 365 on MaineStreet. RE: Computer / Starting Your Pace March 14 - jsd - 02-06-2022 Maybe they treat YourPace students differently? Seems like traditional students and faculty use 365 for email and have full 365 access. On campus they have computer labs. They have access to MS Project in the labs and in the dorms. I was given virtual access awhile ago and it never worked. RE: Computer / Starting Your Pace March 14 - jsd - 02-06-2022 Well then, you have me stumped. Maybe they no longer have the 365 agreement discussed on the link I posted above. Which makes sense, if they converted from Outlook 365 to Google email. |
