I've never been to Columbia, but I attended the very liberal Texas State University and took classes from liberal sociologists. I was never scolded for liking Jane Austen. I know that when schools teach historical facts, such as the horrors of chattel slavery, the racists call it indoctrination and Critical Race Theory. Obviously, they don't know what CRT is. Right wing extremists believe that the negative parts of U.S. history should not be taught because they're snowflakes. For people who are always complaining about those discussing the past, they sure do have a problem with letting go of the Rebel flag that represents losers and Lost Cause mythology.
I did have a conservative criminal justice professor who was a former Republican politician. He told our class that, after reading the research and conducting some of his own, he couldn't deny that there is unequal treatment in the criminal justice system based on race and ethnicity. Of course, the Q cult would call him a RINO for not denying facts. We've seen how Representative Liz Cheney was treated by her own party for not lying, and she's so ultra conservative, she threw her own lesbian sister under the bus.

I have had both liberal and conservative professors throughout my career and I work with both types at my full time position. The thing to do is just be open minded and think for yourself. Remember that people are entitled to their opinions and leave it at that. I do have some colleagues who do their best to avoid anything controversial in their classes, as one said to me the other day, "I really do not need the headache of this type of debate nor do I need the complaints." Some of my colleagues do love a good debate, so you do hear about how heated things are in history, pyschology, religion, and criminal justice courses at the moment and the complaints from students are rampant in these courses, as today's students are easily offended.

In high school, information is typically spoon-fed to you and you are told what to believe.
In college, you are supposed to learn to think for yourself.
There are some professors that seem to just go with the flow and not challenge a student's existing bias and some that are willing to challenge students.

History is kind of like a story and depending on WHO is telling the story, you can make the story seem good or evil based on how the story is told.

Funny…. I couldn’t tell you the political leaning of ANY teacher nor Professor I ever had.
I guess I could assume my “Social Problems” teacher in High school might have been conservative because she handed out anti-abortion pamphlets. (But ya know…. When we assume, we make an ass out of u and me). But seriously… why the hell does *EVERYTHING* have to be political?!?! So sick of it. Especially when one side considers themselves good and the other side is bad (this is applicable to both sides). How about we are all complex individuals who may have a variety of opinions that don’t fit 100% of any ideology? Ugh.

I would no more wish to attend a religion/faith based university than I would a extreme left progressive one. The reality however is that going to one that aligns with your circles as far as politics is more likely to lead to career success in many cases than not. Live in deep south bible belt and you are white, get a degree at something like Liberty and you will be well accepted in that society, live in new York in Manhattan and you will be accepted if you have a progressive school pedigree.
That is the reality of where we are as a society today.
