RE: I got into Georgia Tech's Masters in Computer Science - Online (OMSCS)! - asianphd - 04-20-2021 Congrats! I also don't understand why people choose another uni with higher prices and lower reputations. Georgia Tech and UTexas are such a good deal! I also look at this program (or UTexas one). This program is really famous for its rigorous level, but that's the good point. My friend from SE Asia country (and from an unknown university, of course), enrolled and finished the OMSCS degree, and now he gets many good offers from reputable companies and universities. That makes me considering this program. So I appreciate if you share your journey and some tips and trick for applying RE: I got into Georgia Tech's Masters in Computer Science - Online (OMSCS)! - bjcheung77 - 04-20-2021 @camjenks - Great work! Congrats! That's awesome! I find it great that several board members and fellow Big3 graduates are able to get into these type of programs offered by pretty well known universities and with these MOOC offerings, it's a lesser dent into peoples wallets especially during these times of uncertainty... @asianphd - I also added the U of Texas to my list of possible programs as well, the pricing/ranking of the school is pretty much on par with Georgia Tech, but I kind of like the GT name better than UofT... time to look at getting some tuition assistance, it's so hard to find a consulting gig that has reimbursement! Those are the main prereqs that you're definitely going to need for future courses. The OMSCS degree is not distinguished from their on campus masters, so it's the same top ten ranked program, but they are less selective than most other similarly ranked offerings since they can scale it much more easily online, and it only costs about $8k. Thanks so much for this. Great to hear, also hoping to get into OMSCS. Have no tech background except for project management/management side of things. I am taking the CS route as you've mentioned. Currently looking to get an additional "math area of study" option for 15 more credits that will likely take me an extra half a year to a year for hopefully a better chance at access to OMSCS. I thought I'd do that mostly because alot of my credits are PASS/FAIL, due to old credit transfers, ACE, Sophia ect. So there won't be a lot of GPA aside from capstone otherwise for GT to assess. Would love your opinion (or anyone else who'd like to chime in), do you think that'd be worth it that extra math would help my opportunity for entry, or would a CS degree with lots of Pass/Fail credits be sufficient? Did you apply with ACE credits and were they treated in kind or not considered..? You may want to review their signature, they're all CLEP/ACE/NCCRS credits. Grad school looks at "all angles" of a student, it's not just focused on GPA or college courses they've taken. I generally advised 3 things - Certs, Degree, Experience. It's also a good idea to have references from teachers/workplace, and making sure you have some graded credits and prerequisites completed. I see. Hopefully they don't completely discount it since all my core subjects are non-college credits! Don't suppose those study.com "certs" you can put on your linkdln count..?
