I was in that boat a while ago. I am working in the US on a work visa, but I am neither a citizen nor a resident. I researched a bit and found out getting 6-9 RA credits is going to cost me more than $1000. So I decided to go ahead and complete an accredited high-school program which will exempt the English language requirement at most colleges.. I found that Pennfoster high school is both RA and NA and costs about $1000 - $1500 depending on the promotion going. Long story short, I took some time but eventually completed it for under ~1200. If you want to try this route, Pennfoster high school is available globally. My son is outside US and he is doing this now. If you are determined and have the time, the whole diploma can be completed in 6 months or less I believe. Well, to he honest, i prefer to spend the same money (or even a little more) in the 9 RA credits. In this way i can get the english requeriment and also advance in the degree courses. RE: English language proficiency for non-us students - msganti - 08-05-2020 FYI - some of the Pennfoster high school electives are ACE approved. If you plan carefully, that can give you 9-15 ACE credits. RE: English language proficiency for non-us students - msganti - 08-05-2020 If the BSBA accepts ACE credits then they should. I mean, even when you get ACE credits, these credits sometimes don't fit the degree requirements, when i start with this "degree quest" I tried to do as much course as possible. Those old 1 credits Sophia free courses, TEEX courses, etc. But thoses courses don't fit anything else that "free electives". Over time I discovered that this is a waste of time and a false illusion of progress. Free electives is 9 credits request under EC-BSBA (and I don't remember but similar for COSC), once you fit those pretty easy to get anywhere credits, any extra credit that only fit for "free electives" is a waste of time. It is also a waste of time to get another "Liberal Sciences" course when you already fit the Liberal Sciences credits request and so on... Recently ss20ts wrote a post where somehow this topic is cited: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-OMG-Credits?pid=315088#pid315088 In his post, he talk about how he is over 120 credits and still don't fit the credits requests to any degree. This is not about compulsory collecting any credit but about collecting credits in a smart way. RE: English language proficiency for non-us students - msganti - 08-05-2020 cecilgambe7 I gave you the information I have. It is upto you how "smartly" you use it. FYI - TESU accepts Pennfoster credits, though they haven't provided any mapping: https://www.tesu.edu/academics/catalog/provider-directory If I were you, I'll choose the PF courses that fit into general credits of any college like Algebra, Eng Comp, Economics etc http://www2.acenet.edu/credit/?fuseaction=browse.getOrganizationDetail&FICE=191627 RE: English language proficiency for non-us students - cecilgambe7 - 08-05-2020 (08-05-2020, 01:40 PM)msganti Wrote: cecilgambe7 Ok, these credits are college related and relevant for BSBA an other degrees, if you can choose by yourself some of these and transfer to your degree i think this could be good. Anyway with ASU promotion still alive, and with Luna Community College - $38 per RA credit, i think that getting 9 RA credits in order to fit english proficiency request is better that complete high-school again. May it is different for you if you are currently living in the US, as local high-school certificate could give you other benefits. |
