I think Snazz also put some additional information on another post that was really helpful for me - like knowing that the toxicity of alcohol is .4 and some ohter tidbits that are easy to remember and come in very helpful.

Oh, and Dantes puts the rate of alcohol elimination at .3 (may be .33 or .34)per hour not .5 like on IC.

I agree... DANTES includes dissociative anesthetics in the Hallucinogens category.

I agree... The liver metabolizes ABOUT .35 oz of alcohol per hour. Stick close to this number on the DANTES exam answers and you will choose the right answer.

I agree... I was asked a few questions about which category certain BRAND NAME drugs fell into.

I agree... I was asked what the LD50 of Alcohol was (LD50 is the Lethal Dose for 50% of the population). The answer is a Blood Alcohol Level of 0.4 (or whichever is closest to 0.4 on the list of answers). Eg, If 100 people have a BAL of 0.4, about 50 of them (statistically) will not survive.

Do great,

Is MDMA a Hallucinogen or a stimulant? At least as far as the test is concerned. It's listed as a hallucinogen here:

http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/pubs/abuse/chart.htm

And a stimulant here:

http://www.drugabuse.gov/DrugPages/DrugsofAbuse.html

InstantCert seems to list it under hallucinogens (saying it's "a stimulant that can cause hallucinations"). Which is it on the test? I assume that InstantCert is correct and that the first government site is correct.

Sirjake,

It should be listed in BOTH categories!

MDMA is a methamphetamine and clearly falls into the Stimulant category. It also causes hallucinations and therefore is categorized as a Hallucinogen too.

Hope that helps,

Hey, thanks, Snaggle. I had not seen this reply until this morning for some reason (normally the threads that have been replied to that I haven't read are highlighted--it wasn't). Thanks for the answer.

I did take the test this morning. I think that I probably passed with a decent score, but, as usual, I'll breathe a lot easier when I know that for sure.

Did anyone else get a question that had "chocolate" as an answer? I think it was the answer to a question asking which of a list of items was a stimulent (I was fairly certain that the others weren't). But it still struck me as a weird question since I don't remember reading the word "Chocolate" even once in my preparation.

Yeah, I had that question too. It's because chocolate contains caffeine...and caffeine is a stimulant.

You probably did great!

Exactly the reasoning I went by, but I thought it was a stretch because it said is a stimulant, not contains. But, I just did a search on Google and found out that chocolate is considered a "weak stimulant," (source) so apparently we got it correct. Anyway, I found it to be an odd question. Seems kind of inconsequential in the scheme of things. :-P

It asked which Constitutional Amendment allowed alcohol to be sold again.
choices
4th
6th
10th
18th

Another one is which drug is used in Native American Religion
answer is "Peyote"

Drug and Alcohol - sirjake - 05-19-2006

Uh, I think you got the question slightly off... The 18th amendment instituted prohibition (made it illegal to sell alcohol). The 21st repealed it (allowed alcohol to be sold again).

SirJake,

He remembered the right question, but gave the wrong answer choices. I encountered this question too.

Which amendment repealed prohibition? 21st Amendment will be one of the options (and the correct answer).

Worth knowing. I remember this question vividly because I had to guess on it...and guessed wrong! Still passed though.
