"Don't need cheap, don't need fast" is like the anti-tagline for this forum!  Tongue

That's an awesome tuition assistance program that you have access too! I'm glad you get to take advantage of it!

What I am concerned about now though is people stating that competency based programs are for people who have experience in the field and can get through courses fast. If I get through them at my own pace, would a competency program still be ok or are they only for people who are familiar with everything? Thank you in advance!

Normally, the problem with a competency program is that taking longer costs more because you pay by the term. With your tuition assistance, that might be a moot point. Just make sure that a competency program fits the company's rules for TA, and that you are able to meet any policies they might have about the number of credits or grades. Also keep in mind that most companies require you to stay for a minimum amount of time after receiving the assistance or you have to pay some or all of it back. It would be a bummer to have $20,000 of aid keep you from taking the job of your dreams.

I'm in a competency based undergrad program and don't find it taking me longer at all. I have a set schedule for myself. I know how many courses I must complete in my term to graduate on time. I attended CSU Global from February until August. I completed 7 courses during that time. They are not a CBE program. I am now at UMPI. I started in August and have already completed 3 courses. This is my 4th week of classes. UMPI is a CBE program. I don't understand why people say over and over the CBE programs cost more. One 3 credit course at CSU was $1050. One 8 week term at UMPI is $1400. These 3 courses are CSU would have cost $3,150 and at UMPI they were $1,400. I have saved $1,750. I also have at least 2 more courses to complete during this term. So I will save a few more thousand dollars.
