Cool, thnks, ima look into it. I decided to go with Excelsior. I am currently working on Calc at study.com and plan on doing intro to c++ at SL. Does Excelsior accept the free teex credits?

Excelsior College took my TEEX Cyber Credits but I was in the HSEM degree program.

As part of the program, you get these certifications:

Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) – Associate of (ISC)² designation
Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) – Associate of (ISC)² designation
Certified Encryption Specialist (EC-Council ECES)
Certified Incident Handler (EC-Council ECIH)
Certified Internet Webmaster – Site Development Associate (CIW-SDA)
Certified Internet Webmaster – Web Security Associate (CIW-WSA)
A+ (CompTIA)
Network+ (CompTIA)
Security+ (CompTIA)
Project+ (CompTIA)
ITIL® Foundation

Here are the courses, not including the general ed stuff. Many, but not all, courses will map to one of the certifications above, and your final exam will be the cert exam. These are included in your tuition, you don't pay extra to take these exams.

All classes are pass/fail, and depend solely on your passing of an exam, or a paper/project, or both in some courses.

Business of IT - Applications
Business of IT - Project Management
Introduction to IT
IT Foundations
IT Applications
Fundamentals of Information Security
Information Systems Security
Network and Security - Foundations
Networks
Network and Security - Applications
Web Development Foundations
Scripting and Programming - Foundations
Managing Web Security
Managing Cloud Security
Data Management - Foundations
Data Management - Applications
Technical Communication
Introduction to Cryptography
Digital Forensics in Cybersecurity
Legal Issues in Information Security
Cyber Defense and Countermeasures
Managing Information Security
Emerging Technologies in Cybersecurity
IT Capstone Written Project

I would go with WGU for the free certifications, which will be a lot more valuable in the long run. You can't even get cybersecurity jobs in the federal government without having certain certifications.

Also, WGU's program is only 3 months old. If it gets recognized by CAE, it'll take longer than that.

The NSA doesn't really care about that list, and most of their tech employees don't have degrees from programs that are on that list. I applied to a non-IT position, and they tried to get me to apply for an IT position because they thought I had a security-related certification. I just had the TEEX courses and no IT-related degree. A former coworker of mine was hired by the NSA a few years ago without having a cybersecurity, information security, or information assurance degree. They have a hard time finding people with the skills they need. Ultimately, they only care about skills.

That's not surprising, and is line with the private sector as well. Experience is king in the field.

RE: Cyber security degree - Student00 - 11-04-2017

How do you transfer credits from study.com, SL etc. to excelsior? Should I complete as many courses as I can before applying?...Also, how much of excelsior cyber operations can be tested out? I see most of the general ed can be tested out but the core classes it doesnt look like it.

Since you're looking at online / non-trad degree options, you might as well consider Charter Oak State College as well. https://www.charteroak.edu/cybersecurity/

I remember @bjcheung77 was accepted to it. He may have more info on it if you're interested.
