:iagree: You perfectly described my experience with SL. I think the trick questions are due to open book exams. At least they've cut down the number of exams. I think the clep would have been much easier. But when you are juggling courses with exams, combining those with a SL and\or PF course just makes sense. To me anyway.

I am finding that the less I like a topic, the harder it is to study. While I agree that CLEPing out of Accounting might have been easier, I'm just not sure I could pay attention to IC. Ha ha the reason I am on the forum so much is because I have one window open to study, and degreeforum on the other. I have to flip back and forth or I zone out. I seriously wonder if I am developing ADHD..

Everyone in business school who's not an accounting major hates accounting to some extent. Managerial is more interesting than financial, but they're both courses to power through. Hang tough. Many, many people have been in your shoes and managed to make it through their accounting requirements. You will too.

It's good to know that I'm not alone! As I'm going through the course, I do see why they want me to learn it. I could not run my own business without accounting skills. Lol.. luckily for me, I have no desire to own a business. I'll stick to what I'm good at - sales.

Yes - They are Tricky!! Thank you. I was stressing, going over all the first chapters, even questioning my brain quality, and came back to some old posts, and you guys - (your old posts of encouragement like a pass is a pass, and hang in there), and so I went to the next chapters even tho I didn't get it, and knew it, and I got that from you guys, the urge to drive forward. With courage, you have helped me again. Kudos.
It seems most of my issue was finding the way to use the book supported site while needing more in depth feel, because there are no instructions about that - I could find anywhere, and I had never done this blackboard thingy before. Couldn't determine if I had to buy another thing - like a pass or some code, so I took 3 weeks trying to find the right book to order, (because I try to be thorough in an obsessive compulsive way), and there were so many ISBN numbers, so I learned all about that. (Do yourself a favor and get the book, or be very brave.) I spent many hours searching, and on internet, for what was so near I could touch it (with the right understanding).
Here are my suggestions for other to consider;
Look for tiny Contents tab on book website to open choices for more learning options. Choose any one chapter, and more choices open...Now see Quiz, Glossary. Flashcards, templates, topic tackler, videos... or, select Contents tab again, and it all goes away..... magic.. Learning is like magic.
Wow, now I can see why they used this book and website to assist learning- whereas before, I was lost. Now I'm getting the hang of it.

Yes I totally agree - BUY THE BOOK!!! I don't think I could pass without them.
You can actually get details about the book before you sign up for the class. If you're doing the $99 a month deal, this can save time and money. Buy the book on eBay or Amazon and then sign up on SL the day the book arrives.
Also- if you ever have any questions, I have found the support at SL to be exceptional. I have gotten questions answered by phone and email and am totally pleased.

I signed up for the Acct I course but now I'm thinking I'll just clep it and do accounting 2/managerial on straighterline.
I took the clep practice test from the college board after studying rea and instantcert and got a 78% so I think by the clep standard I am almost there.

Hi All,
I could not and would not have attempted Straighterline Accounting 1 without this Instant cert site, Thank you Steve, and Straighterline. Am very grateful to do this at home rather than in night school. If you know the subject already, you might prefer to CLEP out. If you need to learn concepts this is a great option. Will probably not make an A, like the studious pro's here, but am regaining study habits, have set up a comfortable study area, and am powering through. (only 4 more tests to go.) Weaknesses include skimming instead of reading, panic during tests, over 40, too much partying in the past, lack of desire to learn a very tedious subject, left-handed/ambidextrous = right-brained. I would do it again for the college credit and be more diligent, but would have book in hand at start for terminology. Google has 5,440,000 references to "I hate accounting".
Tips: In my experience, the course is not linear with the combined book (6531), and topics do not match chapters.
Excel templates are helpful, but with recent Windows updates, have lots of errors so I made my own worksheets.
This Straighterline course helps us take the tests for the individual sections, to learn a piece at a time, one step at a time. This is a complex subject. This method is working for me, especially when I study daily instead of just on the weekends.
After taking test, see note to review test, scroll down, select OK, File, Print, and you can see your test results.
