My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - LaterBloomer - 06-30-2016 I LOVE libraries, so I'm much happier that you're helping a library rather than your (rich) company! My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - passit1 - 06-30-2016 LaterBloomer - apparently, so am I. Never realized how much I got out of my old career in the hospitals in terms of fulfillment. Working with the library has that feel good feeling coming back. Something important to consider for future career moves. My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - passit1 - 06-30-2016 I finally was able to submit task 3 of the capstone today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Only 2 more tasks to go. My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - passit1 - 07-01-2016 Task 3 meet requirements! Finally some more progress on the capstone. My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - passit1 - 07-08-2016 Task 4 so far - library was very interested in my recommendations and we had a great discussion today when I gave them my report. For me, I learned so much about the way libraries are shifting to take on the roll as community center and how marketing/social media is factoring in as a result. However, the task did not meet requirements as far as the WGU grader was concerned, with several areas requiring revision. The course mentor did not agree with this grading and appealed it. Now only 3 areas need revision - 2 of them I understand but the third has me stymied. How do I calculate financial ROI for a nonprofit? Especially a nonprofit that does no fundraising? My finance text only gives the regular profit/cost equation. The library is looking to increase attendance at activities and they don't charge. So no revenue. Looking online only yields info about nonprofit ROIs and fundraising which doesn't apply here. Anyone out there in degreeforum land know how to do this? My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - KayV - 07-08-2016 Could you talk about social return on investment? SROI is the acronym. How to Use SROI to Show Your Nonprofit's Impact My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - passit1 - 07-08-2016 KayV Wrote:Could you talk about social return on investment? SROI is the acronym. I was thinking about something like this....like using current headcount / current cost to produce programs and then the projected headcount / cost with recommendations to produce a cost per headcount. Thank you for the link. My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - LaterBloomer - 07-09-2016 passit1, You're just amazing. The library is fortunate that you're able to bring your business skills to the table and help them. With government agencies and non-profits, special care has to be taken with management so that taxpayers' and donors' dollars are used as effectively as possible Keep up the good work! With the grader's comments, you're learning even more. (It could be you're learning that the grader is an idiot...., but I hope not!) Keep up the great educational and community work. My Journey from Dead End Job to Success - passit1 - 07-15-2016 Resubmitted task 4 of the capstone yesterday - praying to the gods of academia that it passes this time. The burnout is getting really tough between the job/school/family. Hubby has stepped up and is doing almost all of the parenting & housework while I struggle with school & work. Task 5 is almost done - it is a multimedia presentation about what I've learned from the MBA program, task 4 and how I'll be applying these concepts to future professional development. Powerpoint and speaker notes are done. Going home to record myself presenting it now and then I'll upload it. The MBA work is hindering my ability to catch on at my new job the way I need to. There is no time for data analysis or thinking about improvements while running shift, it's just too busy. Days off are full of MBA homework so I don't have my analysis and information for meetings at work and the managers I report to are wondering what's up. Bit off far more than I can chew and need this MBA stuff done and gone ASAP.
