So if you are considering (say) English/communications + educational studies, I think you'd want to go after the English degree first and then switch to the educational studies one. UMPI wants you to be successful. They care about their students outcomes. I think that matters a lot ![]() RE: UMPI - Swoneus - 01-19-2021 Any knowledge as to the flexibility of the foreign language requirements in the GEC? I'd rather not take Spanish or French with UMPI if I can afford it, as I've been self-studying Brazilian Portuguese for over a year now. Any chance they'd accept ACFTL credits in place or transfer credits from an RA institution that would teaches Portuguese? ACFTL would be optimal, but they only test European Portuguese, which is a whole hurdle by itself. RE: UMPI - Ann7 - 01-19-2021 (01-19-2021, 11:00 AM)ashkir Wrote:Yes that's something to consider! If you can effectively prove it and or have college equivalent credit ACFTL is ACE credit. UMPI will likely take it. Is it geared toward elementary, middle school or high school teaching? IT appears to have 4 upper level classes already. DO you need a certain amount of upper levels in the electives also? What are the total requirements? RE: UMPI - rachel83az - 01-19-2021 (01-19-2021, 11:52 AM)Swoneus Wrote: Any knowledge as to the flexibility of the foreign language requirements in the GEC? IIRC, UMPI teaches more than Spanish or French but those two languages are the only ones available online. If you were to transfer in something like Brazillian Portuguese or German, I'm guessing that they'd be okay with that. RE: UMPI - Cofffeee - 01-19-2021 I am waiting for response on the foreign language ACE transfer. I wouldnt take Spanish or French with UMPI. I hope to transfer Russian as ACE. Registrar explained that most probably it will be accepted but they forwarded my request to the person responsible for UMPI Yourpace. I will update when they respond RE: UMPI - ss20ts - 01-19-2021 (01-19-2021, 11:52 AM)Swoneus Wrote: Any knowledge as to the flexibility of the foreign language requirements in the GEC? On campus they offer a variety of languages. In YourPace, they currently offer French and Spanish. They just added Spanish in October. RA credits will easily transfer in. ACE credits aren't as easy to transfer in. RE: UMPI - ashkir - 01-19-2021 (01-19-2021, 12:11 PM)Pathfinder Wrote:(01-19-2021, 11:00 AM)ashkir Wrote:Yes that's something to consider! UMPI is easily the most responsive school here on this forum. They're more generous with ACE credits than TESU, COSC, and WGU are now with their new policy changes. You do have to complete 30 through UMPI, but, you can always split and do multiple degrees, etc. They are very willing to work with you. They're super invested in your success, and respond to you quickly. I don't think I've ever waited more then 4 hours during business hours without a response. After ss20ts got admitted they changed their ACE policy to be unlimited. They're very flexible with them now. They took all of my Sophia. Most came in as electives, but a few came in as higher levels. I inquired about Straighterlines/Study.com classes and they will meet a lot of targets. RE: UMPI - ashkir - 01-19-2021 I'm doing MAT140 right now. The PreCalc from Aleks and College Algebra did not satisfy Basic Mathematics for Business. This is a mix of elementary Algebra (mostly pre-Algebra) and Geomentry. The content is very well explained, with several examples. The examples are written in a way to try and get you to think and get feedback. There are pictures, videos, graphs, etc explaining things. It actually does a lot better job then my geoementry teacher in high school... Only class I ever failed. I actually somehow understand it now? On Aleks Pre Calc I failed all the geometry questions but still had enough to pass because of my algebra skills and clever guessing. I spent about 3 hours so far and am nearly done with MAT140. ![]() your mileage may vary I am very good at Algebra. So I was able to breeze through the Algebra content. There are quizzes that "test" your assessment before. If you test out of it, you skip straight to the assignment, which asks you to write/explain how to solve something, or asks you to adjust something. They ask you to SOLVE the sample in your own words. They're asking you to explain how the example is solved, they GAVE you the answer for. I haven't done the assessment yet. I'm going to brush up for a few more hours on graphs/geometry as I hated those in previous classes. |
