UMPI seems like a super viable option, especially for people who are eligible for a pell grant or are starting from scratch. Thank you for this thread, it has me questioning my current plans.
Question: It seems like minors are reserved for those who go for a BLS. Is that the case, or can you take minors on any given degree?

The minors are really for the BLS because you have a major with the other degrees. There isn't a major really with the BLS.
Lots of people attend UMPI without a Pell grant. I transferred to UMPI with mostly RA credit - only a handful of ACE credits most of them they didn't accept.

I would think the opposite - it would be great for people who DON'T have any aid available, because the price is low and you can rack up a lot of credit if you're motivated. We are considering a competency-based degree for my husband (not UMPI) because he doesn't qualify for any aid, and competency-based is so much more affordable than other schools.

I'm speaking as someone that has filled out FAFSAs but never used them, so please forgive and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they award the pell grant per semester, right?
My rationale is that you'll get less equivalency credits and have to complete at least 30 at UMPI, but probably more. Your pell grant, provided you qualify, will carry you to some degree every term.
Contrast to TESU's minimum cost is $4000 and change if you optimize your plan to finish in one semester. You'll only be awarded the pell grant just the once and pay the difference. If you managed to knock it out of the park at UMPI, it would be less. But four or more terms leaves you with a higher price.
Admittedly, I'm also not the fastest course taker.

Pell is awarded on a semester basis - 2 semesters per academic year.

With TESU, you can spread the cost out over 3 semesters and pay little/nothing out of pocket. Whether UMPI or TESU is best will depend on your personal circumstances.

UMPI has you pay for a semester at a time if you use financial aid.They have a policy if you get the Pell Grant, it's 0% out of cost. But you have to ask them for that.
I'm starting on the 19th! I'm excited lets do this! They have amazing service and are quick to respond. TESU is like pulling teeth and broke federal law by refusing to waive oral components.

I really like the sound if umpi but I'm worried that it's not actually the most affordable option. I was before considering TESU but that also seems to be getting progressively more expensive. Would UMPI be doable at a cheap rate/short time frame if all I have is sophoa credits? I also wonder if you have to pay the full 1,400 amount each time or if you can space out payments? Thank you all for your info and help, greatly appreciated.
