Help Shape My Last Remaining CLEPS/DSST's...almost done. - soupbone - 01-05-2010 Hello guys and gals. If you've looked at the ALEKS thread you've seen me blasting away at a few of the Math courses. I'm done with those and winding toward the end of my degree but I still have several credits to test out of. Here is where I am right now: B. Humanities 12 hours total (3 Left Needed for degree) HLS-355: Critical Thinking for Homeland Security (3 hours)---CURRENTLY ENROLLED TESC Humanities Electives (6 Hours completed through A&IL CLEP) (9) (3 needed) In need of 3 hours in Humanities. Testing out preferred. Suggestions requested. C. Social Sciences 12 hours total SOC-322: Cultural Diversity in the U.S. ECE TESTING OUT (3 hours) Social Science Electives (6 Hours completed through SS&H CLEP) (3 Hours given from Administration of Justice course) The ECE Cultural Diversity test will go here D. Natural Science and Mathematics 12 hours (NONE NEEDED! Thanks to ALEKS!) Mathematics (3 hours Completed through LSU College Algebra) Mathematics or Natural Science (9) (6 hours through ALEKS!) BIOL1001 General Biology (3.00) BIO-111 E. General Education Electives 18 hours (3 Aleks credits will go here. This leaves me with 15 remaining Gen Ed credits.) Ok so I have 3 credits in Humanities, the ECE Cultural Diversity, and 15 hours of General ED. I need to get all of this done ASAP because TESC's June graduation date deadline is April 1. This means all documentation has to be evaluated by then. In reality it means I need to make sure all items are to them no later than March 1 and even then I'm still a little concerned. So I need your suggestions on the quickest way to that. I'm considering the Natural Sciences CLEP but I'm not sure how much of a time investment it might be. Other than that I'm looking to others for guidance. ![]() I'm thinking DSST Personal Finance (not sure where this would go), Technical Writing, CLEP Sociology and Psychology(though I'm not sure how fast these can be done). So far that's all I have but these are simply just possibilities. ![]() Help Shape My Last Remaining CLEPS/DSST's...almost done. - TMW2010 - 01-05-2010 If you did fairly decent on A&I Lit, and don't mind doing some reading, English Lit can be a nice quick 6 credits (3 of which would fill your humanities requirement, and the other 3 spill over into your Gen Ed) There's a great thread in the General Education section on it. (The one in the specific exam feedback actually has a little less info.. Go figure) Can you use FEMAs? I did pretty good on the A&I Lit course but I'm not a fan of it. ![]() The thing is though if I can do English Lit and Natural Sciences then that's another 12 credits down. For a reference point I've taken English Comp CLEP, A&I Lit, and Social Sciences/History CLEP. I hate to use the word easy but I'm certainly looking for the quickest way to get through these. If you've looked at the ALEKS thread you've seen me blasting away at a few of the Math courses. I'm done with those and winding toward the end of my degree but I still have several credits to test out of. Here is where I am right now: Technical writing was a breeze. I simply googled technical writing- spent an hour or two reading and that was it. You know I am generally REALLY DOWN on people who say a test is easy, but in this case it was. That's your 3 for humanities. I don't remember all of your ALEKS classes, but any of them (except business stats) can go in your gen eds- so if you want to keep on rocking out those classes, or if you have more time left before you expire- it's something to think about. Those are in 3's for math, so those are gen eds (even stats). Also, I liked the Criminal Justice DSST, and since you have some knowledge in that area- it's worth considering. I used the free online Sparksnotes or Cliffs Notes (can't remember)- but I printed them out and cram-jammed for a few days. At that time, I had completed a juvenile delinquency course, so I had a bit of background in that one area, but otherwise just what I knew from watching TV. That's 3 in social science, which would get you gen ed credit. A few dates, some technical court process questions, a few law/legal constitution type questions. Nothing you can't memorize. IF you did social science and history based on the fact that you might like or know a lot of history, you might consider that exam. For me, I'm not a history person, so I STUDIED for US History 1 using REA, but passed. For someone that's into it, I hear it's not terrible. (though I can't fully agree lol) Help Shape My Last Remaining CLEPS/DSST's...almost done. - JanusthePhoenix - 01-05-2010 If you know your basic chemistry and biology (and I do mean basic), you might be able to bluff your way through Natty Sci. Take a practice test and see how you feel about it, I say. They are: CLEP MAN-301-CE Principles of Management (3) 50 MAR-301-CE Principles of Marketing (3) 50 PSY-101-CE Introductory Psychology (3) 50 SOC-101-CE Introductory Sociology (3) 50 DSST AOJ-101-DE Introduction to Law Enforcement (3) 45 AOJ-102-DE Criminal Justice (3) 400 ENG-201-DE Technical Writing (3) 46 AST-101-DE Astronomy (3) 48 COS-101-DE Introduction to Computing (3) 400 I know for a fact that I already have AOJ-101 or 102 somewhere on my transcript but I'm not sure where it went. One of those will duplicate. I notice that on the TESC list they fall under human services. Would this still be considered General Ed? Also Principles of Marketing and Management fall under Business Admin. Would they be considered General Ed? Also what do you guys think of this list? This might be my finalized list but I want some input as to your opinions on difficulty and time of study. :willynilly: Help Shape My Last Remaining CLEPS/DSST's...almost done. - cookderosa - 01-09-2010 Ok so I've been studying a few different subjects but I'm trying to lock down my final 7 CLEPS/DSST's I've been reading the quickest/easiest thread and I see a few that keep sticking out. I think for now I'll start with ENG-201-DE Technical Writing (3) 46 AST-101-DE Astronomy (3) 48 COS-101-DE Introduction to Computing (3) 400 I'm pretty sure I only need a few hours of study for the computing DSST. Part of my job duties is computer forensics so I'm sure I should get past this one fairly easy. I'm trying to test these first three at the end of this coming week. I just don't want to overload myself. Thanks! Thanks Linda! I took SS&H last year so I'm not sure how much of it I've retained since I've been through so much since then. I'm getting a little nervous now winding these last 21 credits out. I know ECE Cultural Diversity has to be one of them since it is required for my degree. This leaves me with 18 unknowns for General Ed. I'm certain I'm taking DSST Intro to Computing (looks fairly easy) and DSST Technical Writing (also looks easy). I am racking my brain trying to determine which ones will fill the remaining 12 hours. I'm almost in panic mode because this is the end of my degree and I'm shooting for a June graduation with TESC. I'm panicked because it takes them so long to evaluate credit and I really need to be done by June. So realistically I need to be done in the next two weeks with these tests so you can see why I'm really nervous. If I take off two days of work this week and a few next week would I be able to knock all of these out? These are the types of questions I'm faced with and it's confusing. I've been reading the forums and the IC feedback section trying to hone in on what would be the quickest and easiest for me but it just makes me that much more nervous for some reason. I like the "IC only" thread but I'm still stuck on those last 12 hours. I feel like I need to :puke: (love the new emoticons ![]() CLEPS taken and passed so far---SS&H, English Comp, A&IL. Thanks again guys for all the advice! *EDIT* Forgot to add that I'm still considering the ALEKS Intro to Stats but when I looked at it the other night I was intimidated for sure. I blazed through the other Maths but word problems are my achilles heel. I'm also a visual learner so I'm trying to find options that might fit this criteria as well. |
