Pierpont new residency requirement - homeschoolmom1 - 08-16-2024

bjcheung77 Mod edit: For those looking to graduate December 2024, and apply for graduation before Oct 4, here's the application form...

If you scroll down to "Disclaimer", you can read that, starting October 4, 2024, there will be a 12-credit residency requirement of courses taken through Pierpont for the BOG Associates degree. ACE courses don't count.

That's interesting. I wonder if the misinterpreted the WV BOG rule previously or if this is something new.

RE: Pierpont new residency requirement - jg_nuy - 08-16-2024

Given that 12 credits at Pierpont cost $6,830 for non-residents as of 2024-25, this BOG will become much less attractive as an option. Pity.

RE: Pierpont new residency requirement - cro-magnon - 08-16-2024

Oof. So, tuition fees alone would be $6,830? No thanks. And I see there may be some other interesting extra fees involved on top of that if you want to do coursework remotely at Pierpont, like a $50 per credit hour e-learning fee or $22 per credit hour for off-campus instruction. It looks like the BOG AAS has gotten very expensive all of a sudden. I wonder if other WV colleges offer the program cheaper.

But on the plus side, you can graduate with honours now I guess?
"To qualify for a “with honors” designation at graduation, students are required to have completed at least 12 letter-graded credits."
I don't remember that being a thing before. Not that it's worth the extra $6k+, lol.

Oh well. It was a good opportunity for those who jumped on it when it was available.

RE: Pierpont new residency requirement - RJ77 - 08-16-2024

So it went from free to $130 to $350 to $6,830...that escalated quickly. I wonder if this has anything to do with their accreditation being put on notice recently.

RE: Pierpont new residency requirement - Old Guy - 08-16-2024

I suspect this space will die really quickly once the people in the pipeline graduate. They made it easier and easier and then throw it out of reach. Thank goodness my daughter graduated in August and is waiting for her degree. I suspect they hired a consultant to baby sit them off the accreditation poo list and they said the program isn't worth the risk of misunderstanding that they are too easy. Only 10 or 20 years ago the Big Three offered bachelors degrees completely by CLEP, DSST, ACE, etc.. We need more of these programs not less. There are none left.

Sad, too many people taking advantage of this... There are always the 'freebies', for those going for the UMPI BLS, BABA, BA degrees, or a TESU degree...

I heard BABA has some changes also, it is no longer as easy as they have changed some of their requirements

Those changes have not been implemented in YP yet. They're on campus so far. The changes aren't that big. Degree programs frequently change. No one knows if the new classes will be anymore difficult than past courses so no one can say it's not as easy. Some people may need to take 12 classes at UMPI instead of 10. That's not a big deal. Where else can you complete a degree this quickly for as little money?
