UMPI & Pierpont - Jackiessuccess - 09-08-2022 Hello All, I’ve been on degree forum reading for many of years. I'm a 34 year old Mother from California. I work at a medical center but recently had to go on disability due to unexpected health issues. To get a better paying position I need my degree asap. I am interested in receiving my BOG A.A.S with an AOE in business from Pierpont and my Bachelor’s of liberal studies in Management or BLS in Educational studies from UMPI. I sent Pierpont all of my transcripts a few days ago. However, the transcripts are not showing up on my Pierpont student account yet. I want to get ready to apply for UMPI. I have no more financial aid to use because I used it all long ago at a trade school when I was younger. I will be scrapping up every dime I have to pay UMPI. I plan to complete the classes that I need at UMPI ASAP so that I can have my Bachelors degree before I go back to work. I really like straighterline courses . Their courses are really easy & fast to pass however I don’t believe any of their courses are UL. I will pin the classes I have completed below. Am I all set to receive my Pierpont BoG degree? Am I missing anything for UPMI? I would like to apply before the UMPI deadline and finish as quickly as possible. Here are the courses I have completed so far: -Sophia Art history 1 Art history 2 Into to Stats Macroeconomics Microeconomics Us history 1 Visual communications Us history 2 Intro to web development Intro to ethics Environmental science Intro to information technology Conflict resolution Financial accounting Intro to business Principles of finance Project management 51 sophia credits -Straighterline Anatomy & Physiology 1 Anatomy & Physiology 2 Microbiology, College algebra, Into to psychology 15 straighterline credits I will take the labs for A&P and microbiology ASAP if needed -Community College Credits Philosophy, Intro to logic 3.0 credits -University Credits 1. English Comp 1 4.0 = 2.67 credits 2. Building Success 4.0 = 2.67 credits As a long time admirer of this site, I really would like to say thank you all so much from the bottom of my heart. You all are truly blessing others and changing lives RE: UMPI & Pierpont - rachel83az - 09-08-2022 For UMPI, you will need a science with a lab. I would NOT take this from StraighterLine because the lab kit alone + shipping can cost more than a single month of Study.com. Since you indicated that money is an issue for you, I would definitely go with SDC vs. SL. That would also allow you to take another SDC course. You'll need to create a degree plan to figure out which one. But, let's start with Pierpont. You need: 3 credits communication - completed w/ English Comp I 6 credits math/science - completed w/ stats and/or science classes 3 credits social sciences - completed w/ Macroecon 3 credits computer literacy - completed w/ Intro to IT 60 credits total - completed For Business AoE: At least 15 business credits - May be completed, may not. Up to Nancy Parks, but I'm not sure Conflict Management will count as a business class at Pierpont. I would suggest signing up for the FREE Coursera certificates through The American Dream Academy and completing the Project Management certificate. That should get you to the 15 credits required for a Business AoE. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Coursera Otherwise, I would say to just get the plain BOG AAS and not bother with the AoE. However, the Project Management certificate can also help you with UMPI. I think (though, I could be wrong) that if you do the BLS in Management, the Project Management UL credits will count toward your required UL credits. You still need to do most of your UL credits through UMPI, but 6 potential free UL credits are nothing to sneeze at. Before you apply to UMPI, you'll want to make sure that you also have most of the GEC requirements met. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_Sophia_Transfer_Equivalents is very helpful. 1A - Taken, English Comp I 1B - Not taken, complete at UMPI 1C - Not taken, possibly complete with Sophia Communication at Work 1D - Taken - English Comp I 2A - Taken - Intro to Ethics 2B - Taken - Intro to Philosophy 2C - Not taken, complete at UMPI 2D - Not taken, complete at UMPI 2E - Taken - Art History I 3A - Taken - Algebra 3B - Taken - Stats 3C - Taken - Microbiology 3D - Taken - Environmental Science 3E - Not taken, complete Biology 101L @ Study.com 4A - YourPace introduction, 0 credits; not completed yet 4B - Not taken, complete at UMPI 4C - Taken - Intro to Ethics 5A - Not taken, Intro to Sociology @ Sophia 5B - Taken - US History I 5C - Foreign Language. Not taken. Possibilities: ACTFL (if fluent), Sophia Spanish, SDC Spanish 5D - Taken - Intro to Ethics 5E - Not taken, complete at UMPI You're going to want to transfer as close to 90 credits as possible to UMPI, lest you have to spend an extra session there. Check out the degree plans at https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Category:UMPI to ensure that you are able to do that. Make a spreadsheet with the requirements to keep track of what you've done and what you still need to complete. RE: UMPI & Pierpont - dfrecore - 09-08-2022 SL's A&P I Lab costs $201 + shipping; the Microbiology lab costs $242 + shipping - this is on top of a monthly membership ($99) + the course ($49). So either $349 or $390. Not a good deal. SDC's Bio w/Lab is $199 for a month + $69 for the virtual lab access. $268 will get you your science w/lab plus an additional course of your choosing. So this is a much better deal than SL. I'd go with rachel83az's plan. RE: UMPI & Pierpont - bjcheung77 - 09-08-2022 @Jackiessuccess, Welcome to the board! Can you complete the last post addendum from this thread? Link: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-New-to-DegreeForum-How-this-Area-works | The reason I am asking is because I'm curious if you have fully maxed out the financial aid. With more details, such as your commitments, we'll know how to further provide advice or assistance to see how to get to your goal better, cheaper, easier, faster. Also, are you working f/t or p/t, are you looking to stay or move into another field? Since you're in a medical center, it may be more beneficial to have a BOG AAS emphasis in Biology or Health related. Your UMPI BLS is going to be in "business" already, so there will be redundancy there if you go for a BOG Business, and because you just need to take the Biology with Lab at Study.com and also the Sophia.org Biology course to finish off the requirements. Last but not least, I suggest you do the UMPI BLS Management minor first, and because you need more UL requirements, you can add the Education Minor afterwards. You should review the WIKI template for both Education and Management minors. You should apply to UMPI when you're done with your Sophia.org and Study.com courses. Invest in a second monitor for multi-tasking purposes if you haven't already, work on Sophia.org/Study.com courses to get to the 90 credits for transfer. By using your courses/credits, you can create a plan with the template and use the WIKI for referencing those updates. You're pretty close to that 90 credit threshold, I would just apply and complete any missing credits before you officially enroll. Here's the thread with the triple minor spreadsheet, you should create one for yourself : https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-300-400-level-deadline-for-enrollment-is-May-3?pid=365771#pid365771 Here's the WIKI template for the UMPI BLS Management Minor to reference course options: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UMPI_BLS_Management_Degree_Plan RE: UMPI & Pierpont - Jackiessuccess - 09-09-2022 (09-08-2022, 05:32 PM)rachel83az Wrote: For UMPI, you will need a science with a lab. You need: Omg you're so awesome Thank you, Thank you so much RE: UMPI & Pierpont - Jackiessuccess - 09-11-2022 Budget: I’ve been with my employer for about 6 years .However I’m on a disability leave due to serious unexpected health issues. My budget is small right now but I will spend every dime I can to pay for my school expenses with UMPI. I'd like to go the cheapest route possible, but will consider spending more for easy and fast. Commitments: My children and earning my degree . After going through such a hard time in life right now, I am absolutely motivated to earn my degree. I would love to at least have my Bachelors before going back to work so that I can get a better paying position and have an actual career. Dedicated time to study: I can study as much as is needed during the day, night, and weekends. Timeline: Finishing the courses required for the degree as fast as possible would be ideal. Tuition assistance/reimbursement: I don’t think I have anything to use right now. I am going to check with financial aid just to be sure. To my knowledge I am all out of financial aid. I plan on paying out of pocket. I am looking for a degree in management, business, or project management . The fastest, easiest, cheapest, way possible . I don’t think I can go wrong with a management or project management degree. My employer is constantly hiring in different departments for management positions as well as project managers. I work for a very large hospital/medical center. I wasn’t sure if the BABA- Project Management Degree was difficult& lengthy in comparison to the Liberal studies management degree. Also, project management would be a new skill for me to learn. I started the Coursera project management course and I am really enjoying it so far. I am ready to grow professionally and earn more money while having a great career. My future goal is to earn my Masters at UMPI as well. Many companies have tuition assistance as a benefit. Now it may not apply while you're on leave, but since you're planning to return, maybe it can, or maybe it can be reimbursed as long as you return to work before you finish a term and get issued a grade. RE: UMPI & Pierpont - rachel83az - 09-12-2022 The BABA Project Management shouldn't be that different from the BLS Project Management degree. I would check the degree plans on the wiki to compare the two and see which one seems best for you. RE: UMPI & Pierpont - Jackiessuccess - 09-13-2022 (09-11-2022, 09:25 PM)davewill Wrote:Will do ! I think I would need these courses for the BABA Project Management -Managerial Accounting (I can knock out this course very fast) -Management Information Systems -Legal & Ethical Environment of Business -Business Communication -Change Management -Operations Management I'm not sure if I will have enough time to finish all courses before the UMPI application deadline. I do move fast when working however this will be my first time using study.com. I am currently working all day and night on the goggle course you advised me of . I am also working on Spanish through sophia. I will start a lab course today possibly through study.com. I think it will make sense for me to go with the BABA Project Management but I don't think I will have time for the prerequisite's. I have about 3 weeks before the application deadline with UMPI. Do you think I should just stick with BLS Management? Is that a better route for me right now? Do I need more UL courses? I research the blogs often regarding the UL course requirement. It's very confusing lol. RE: UMPI & Pierpont - rachel83az - 09-13-2022 You must do at least 10 courses at UMPI, with most of your UL credits completed there as well. Most people are not able to get down to exactly 10 courses. How close are you? |
