Microsoft Office Certifications - natshar - 10-17-2018

If I were to become in certified in Microsoft word and excel. Does those count as college credits (ace or nccrs)? If so how many and what do they transfer as?

Not sure what you mean by being certified in word and excel... those are just general office applications.

Microsoft Corporation does have an active listing through ACE for them, the credit values for these two specific certifications are low (1 credit each certification). Also they would fall under Electives with TESU, not Gen Eds (they do not count as a computer science credits) - you can search the specifics through ACE here: https://www2.acenet.edu/credit/?fuseaction=transcripts.main

Certiport exams qualify for ACE. They have a few you can take that include Office.

I'm taking the Word & Excel MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) exams on Friday just because my CC is offering them for free and I figured it wouldn't hurt on a resume. Literally didn't occur to me until seeing this post that I could potentially get ACE credit for them. But sure enough, both are listed as worth 1 credit on the ACE website. Nice!

Yeah I double dipped, 3 credits for the class and 3 through ACE.

3 credits for a class at community college? And three credits one for each word, Excel, PowerPoint? Interesting.

Also how much do the exams cost?

The Certiport exams were part of the class.  So they didn't cost any extra.  Basically, the three 1 credit exams showed the proficiencies required to pass the course.  I then found out that Certiport is also ACE approved so I added them to my transcript.
