College Composition Mod and TESC/Excelsior - keithk - 09-08-2011 My testing center has the old titles for these listed when I go to register, and it's been a bear to try and reach someone there to question them about it. Currently they list English Composition and Freshman College Composition. I'm waiting on my evaluations to come through and I decided I would take A&I Lit and the Composition CLEP's while I wait since I should be safe with those. Almost all of my previous Nuclear Field credits were math/science. It's my belief that English Composition with Essay according to my testing center's old list, or newly termed "College Composition" (w/ essay), will get me the 6 credits I want. Does anyone know offhand if that's the right choice to go with for Excelsior and TESC? I'm having a braincramp and can't find the list for Excelsior (BSBA - Accounting concentration). I have to wait on both evals to come through before I decide which college I'll be attending. EDIT: I should clarify, I see TESC accepts English Composition as 6 credits, but I'm mostly curious about Excelsior. I found some old posts about people taking Freshman College Composition and then finding out they needed to take English Composition at a later time. After more research, I found this in the Excelsior Student Guide: Quote:"Humanities: Strange, so what are you supposed to take for the Written English Requirement? Thanks in advance. College Composition Mod and TESC/Excelsior - keithk - 09-08-2011 I might just figure this out on my own. Nice how that works, lol. Sorry, like I said, I was having a braincramp and just couldn't seem to find anything earlier. From my search, Straighterline might be the route to use for Written English Requirements for Excelsior, does that sound correct? If so, I guess I should hold off taking the College Composition CLEP until I know for sure which college I'm going to attend since I'll have 6 Credits from A&I Lit and would only need 3 more in Humanities. College Composition Mod and TESC/Excelsior - NAP - 09-08-2011 Hi Keith! The Gen Ed requirement is changing at EC as of October 1st. We are waiting to get more information about options to fulfill the Written English Requirement. College Composition Mod and TESC/Excelsior - keithk - 09-08-2011 Thank you kind sir Makes me wonder if I should rush my enrollment if I decide on Excelsior, it should be feasible if I hear back on my evals before long. Speaking of evals, these weeks waiting are really tough....I'm ready to get my degree path down and dive into the process! College Composition Mod and TESC/Excelsior - NAP - 09-08-2011 My evaluation took about 3 weeks, but it was mostly exam credits. Maybe you will get some information about how to fulfill the English credits and any other policy changes on the evaluation. Do you think you are within a year of graduating? I understand being concerned about the change in policy, especially English. Do you think it is significant enough to enroll now? (I agree with you that StraighterLine and the ECE should be some of the options.) This is actually really an important issue - do you have any idea what the English requirement will look like?? DH has been slowly but surely completing his credits, but had planned to wait until he had maybe 75-100 credits to enroll. HOWEVER, he greatly dislikes studying and if the new English requirement meant more work on his part, it would be better to just quickly pay the tuition before the changes. Yikes!!!! College Composition Mod and TESC/Excelsior - NAP - 09-09-2011 I realize that it is a big deal, but compared to the capstone course and GRE changes last year, I am not sure if locking in the old rules is as important. It will probably be a case-by-case decision. Here is the first thread to share the details of Gen Ed changes: http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-thomas-edison-charter-oak-specific/14373-new-gen-ed-requirements-those-enrolling.html I tried to compare the changes in the last post of that thread, but there are still several questions. Since the ECE (exam) is 6 credits and StraighterLine offers English I and II, I expect those to be options. I am curious what other options will be allowed, too. College Composition Mod and TESC/Excelsior - pixaloop - 09-09-2011 I'll search EC but is there a link to the upcoming changes? DH has been just so whiny about studying. Oops.. probably shouldn't say that. DH is such a sweet guy and a very hard worker. He's also ridiculously brilliant and enjoys the fact that he's had a successful career without a degree. So, he knows he needs to get one, but is definitely taking his sweet time. I just kind of freaked out because any tiny change in his plan will be sure to causer a temper tantrum |
