99 credits to get into TESC's masters program

Hi all
TESC accepts applicants into their Masters degree program if they've earned 99 credits. Graduate courses can be used to fill in the rest of the bachelor's degree.

Has anyone ever taken any of the master level courses? I am curious how much more challenging they are than bachelor level courses. This would save a lot of money....

Has anyone thought signing up for TESC's masters program with 99 credits? It really seems like a great option, and a money saver.

Wow, that's a thought!

I don't know how much harder the requirements are but it might make sense in some situations. Kind of like bypassing the AA and going straight to the BA.

Master's classes typically involve (a lot) more writing and reading.
Be careful though, because it seems like a cost savings- but it depends on several things.
First- those remaining credits of your bachelor's degree (21) will be billed as MASTERS credits (around $450/credit plus semester fees if I recall) which puts you at about $10,000 minimum. If you used TESC courses, TECEP, or CLEP those credits would come in at no MORE than $3,500 (or as little as $500). You then must finish the degree, so add another $7,000. You'd have to do the math and see if it pays. I'm not going to tell anyone where to get their master's degree, but there are a LOT of colleges selling master's degrees in the $15-$20,000 price range.
What it does save, is time.

Students who have earned at least 99 credits towards their Baccalaureate degree may apply for provisional admission to a Thomas Edison State College graduate degree. Students can earn up to 9 credits that will concurrently satisfy both the undergraduate and graduate degree requirements."

.......you need 99 credits to apply, up to 9 Grad level credits (500+) may also count as undergrad credit- just make sure they are in your Masters program.

My only two cents on taking master's classes, is that you should be pretty darn sure you want to finish with that college. Classes are hard, expensive, and VERY FEW colleges accept transfer credit of any kind. I know some do, but as a rule, if you move you loose.
