I hope some of my posts have not contributed to that idea- because I know I have written on here (just the other day) that I took classes for my major instead of testing out, but YOU CAN TEST OUT OF YOUR MAJOR. Depending on the school and major... there are too many variables to go into, but I think there are at least 2 others here who are history majors at TESC, and I am sure they can help you get on track.
You can have your credits evaluated by TESC and they will plug them into the requirements, this will help you plan your path.
Oh, and TESC will take your previous history classes as long as you attended a regionally accredited college. You will want to carefully plan your tests so they do not duplicate any courses you have already taken, because you can not get credit twice for the same course- even if the title varies slightly. (US History 111 is stilllAmerican History 101)
TESC has a nice page in their college catalog pdf that shows you exactly which exams count as which classes. This is a great starting point.
You could post your previous credit, it would be helpful at directing you toward the right exams (and it would help YOU get a plan going- putting it in writing is sometimes very helpful)
