stupid question about the IC flash cards

I just started going through the IC flash cards a few days ago for the CLEP Western CIv II exam and I notice that the cards sometimes change as I go through each chapter. The cards are asking for different "blanks" to fill in. How many variations are there for each group of cards? I would assume that this makes you retain more information rather than just memorizing the right word for each card. Any feedback would be helpful.

You have experienced the newer V2 (version 2) of the cards, which is as you say, made to require you to concentrate more on the overall meaning than that one word to fill in the blank.

You will find when checking out old postings from other successful IC members that you should concentrate on studying the general concepts not a specific word. That way you can logic through the test questions. It requires more knowledge than just memorizing something -- this prepares you better for the tests you wish to take.

The IC Flashcards IMHO are so helpful because they let you know what ideas you need to learn. WHen I see a fill in the blank, I don't even focus on memorizing the word. I'll see if I can learn the concept from the explanation that IC offers. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't. If there is more I need to know, that's when I look at wikipedia, or if the Wikipedia explanation is too long and boring, then I'll google the term and try to find a youtube lecture or perhaps a college website that has a good explanation. Then, you'll understand what the card is talking about rather than just knowing the exact word that they want you to fill in.
