study abroad college credit
#1
Since people here are interested in cost efficient college credits, studying abroad is a good way to do this. It's sort of like taking an overseas vacation for credit. Have any of you done this? The schools commonly discussed in these forums are lenient on nontraditional credits.

Maybe some of you youngsters should try this line on your parents. "Mom, dad, I can't graduate until I take a European vacation for credit." I suppose we could start a new thread on the most creative ways to have some fun on the path to a degree.

It should be noted that overseas "colleges" can teach all sorts of topics that won't be transferable into the United States. Even within education frameworks that exist in Europe certain courses offered in post secondary colleges don't transfer into credit in the U.S. They will however contribute to you being a more well rounded individual. An example of this exists in Ireland were institutes of further education take foreign students and allow them to complete FETAC level 3 and 4 courses at full price but are unaware that they are of little value outside of Ireland. So if you plan on doing overseas education makes sure its sponsored by a regionally accredited college states side or run the risk of learning great things with great experiences but of no credit value when you return home.
Don't forget that gaining college credit by taking exams is one of the reason's we're here. That's mainly possible through the flashcards made available by the owner of this forum : InstantCert Plus of course your hard work in learning and reviewing

I didn't mention overseas colleges. That's a legitimate thread diversion, but not my point. There are study abroad vacation packages for which credit is granted by even brick and mortar schools that don't give credit for CLEP.

Here's a list of study aboard programs that Rice University accepts: Rice University - Rice Study Abroad

Here's what Vanderbilt accepts: https://webapp.mis.vanderbilt.edu/studioabroad/

Johns Hopkins: Direct Matriculation Options

These schools are in the 31 schools (http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...post119517) that don't accept CLEP. The point is that if the starting point is schools with the least accommodating policies on nontraditional credit, then whatever they accept may be more likely to be accepted just about anywhere.

You might actually learn something and have a lot of fun.
