I just got email confirmation and verified by phone that I wont need to pay the residency waiver AND i can use TECEPs in the May term for residency BECAUSE I was "enrolled" in February ---I signed up for one TECEP exam which I'm taking this month.
So here is my panic question: what if I fail the TECEP? will I then be 'not enrolled' or does it count for enrollment because I paid/took the exam?
I'm being paranoid, I know....but paying the $2000 waiver makes this a deal-breaker for me.

I would be wary as well, but the ones best to answer you are at TESU. Send them that question.
My guess is, if you failed, you are still enrolled as you were enrolled already before April 1st.
Just to make sure and keep your wits, email them for a definitive answer.

It states in the catalog that you have to EARN credits to stay enrolled, so yes, you have to pass the TECEP.
But I'm not seeing how you would meet residency of 16cr if you take 1 TECEP. That's only 3cr. There is no way to get the remaining 13cr of residency before the May term, which is the cutoff date. The capstone would be 3cr, and the cornerstone (if you took it) would be 1cr, so that still leaves 9cr that you need to take. Unless you're already planning on taking those though TESU, you're going to have to pay the $2000 waiver.
At this point in your degree plan, I would just not worry about residency and go forth taking into consideration your $2000 waiver. If you were close, it would make a difference, but because you're not, it really doesn't.
Plan some inexpensive exams in to reduce the overall cost of the degree, which will only be $1200 more than you had originally planned without the waiver ($2000-$888 for TECEPs). You can make up the difference by taking 6cr CLEP's, free courses like TEEX, Kaplan & Insurance Ethics, and inexpensive courses from Saylor & ALEKS. Or take a lot of courses with SL using a coupon, to get the cost per credit down.

They said the TECEP's I take IN the May term will count - BECAUSE I was "enrolled" in February (the April TECEP)- AS LONG as I register for the TECEPS by the normal May term registration date (and dont do late registration). So, as long as I pay for the 4 now, I will have from May 2nd to July 24 to take the exams.
So, I would have the 3 credits for the TECEP in April, then I will eventually have the 3 for the capstone. So I need to sign up for, and pass, 4 TECEPs in the May term. I need to do Eng Comp 1, Tech Writing, Psych of Women and Nurition. I know it's cramming a lot in but the $2000 is a big deal to us.

That's the answer I thought they would give you. You have that in an email right?
Archive it so you have a record just in case anything funny happens and study hard.
Good luck to you.

They won't let you register for 4 TECEP's in 1 term. The limit is 3. I would try to get an exception if possible. English Comp & Tech Writing are easy passes, you don't really have to study for them, so that's good news. Another easy one to pass is Applied Math, if you're just trying to get the easiest TECEP's to get residency.
Worst case scenario - you pay $300 to take the Cornerstone in May. Not as cheap as a TECEP, but it would get you the extra 1cr up to the full 16cr without having to fight for it.

I think you can register for 4 or 5 TECEPs -- 12-15 cr worth if you aren't taking any other classes. I believe it's if you want to do more than 5 TECEPs that there is a limit. At least that's the message I got when I was registering for May. I am registered for 4 currently and the system seems to be allowing me to add a 5th if I wanted to.

You guys might want to register for N+1 TECEP exams where N is the minimum necessary to avoid the residency waiver fee. This is just in case you fail one.

That's interesting, I tried to do more than 3 a couple of years ago and couldn't. They must have changed that. Good to know, thanks for setting me straight! :-P
