Post Calculus DL courses at a price (UoI)
#1
Course List | NetMath at the University of Illinois

As I'm currently doing an online course with EC which requires various graded items of coursework (essays!), I was sort of missing multiple-choice tests.

This attitude is partly due to the perfectionist effort which can come with essay writing and the almost-fear of the qualitative marking scheme. Graded papers, panic; I need As!

The next best thing is the kind of course where there's only one type of answer - the correct one. This means mathematics Smile I haven't looked for post-calculus I courses for a while. Brigham Young University offer a course in linear algebra (sort of sideways rather than post-calculus I ) and two courses in logic. Finding these course offerings from the University of Illinois' Netmath outreach programme was quite interesting. They are very expensive compared to what I am used to but reasonable in the market. They may also offer an opportunity for any student, like NAP, who's looking at a math major.

Which other distance-learning, post-calculus I courses from regionally-accredited colleges are out there?

LSU has Calc II-III, Linear Algebra/Diff Eq and Probability and Statistics. Empire State College has Calc II, Linear Algebra, Diff Eq and some applied math courses such as Numerical Methods, Discrete Math and Mathematical Modeling.

EDIT: I omitted the University of Wyoming- Calc I-III, LA, Diff Eq

As long as pricey is OK this looks interesting Distance Calculus @ Shorter University

I am thinking about them for calculus I.

Thanks for starting this thread for me and others interested in the Math major. I appreciate it!

Ohio University has exams for credit in many subjects, including Calculus 1-4, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations (UL at EC). These math exams are 4 credits in quarter-hours (not semester hours) and are $288 for each exam.

Correspondence Course List

TMW2010 found the University of Idaho Outreach courses with many UL Math options (plus other subjects) for over $500 per credit:

Engineering Outreach

I found this post about Mercy College. They offer an entire Math major and Computer Science major through online courses. I think it is $700 per credit. Until TMW2010’s post with Idaho’s upper-level math courses and seeing this information about Mercy, I did not know that these high level courses were currently available through online or independent study.

Calculus 2/3 online

Without the GRE, I don't know if I will be able to pursue the Math major as I had planned. I would like to know about other exam and course options for higher levels of math. Thanks to all for sharing!

Chadron State College also has some upper level math courses (they offer a BS in Math), albeit on the semester rotation system.

For most people, it's useful to get some feedback on completed assignments rather than just doing credit-by-exam. I'd also recommend that someone who wants to study math at the graduate level also not take the CBE route.

I can speak to Chadron and their fine DL experience. I almost got my degree there , but I wanted to take more exams than they allow.
