need a plan for a BS degree

Thomas Edison State College: Graduation Information

If you decide to go with a BSBA, I would suggest getting the Strategic Management course from Penn Foster knocked out as early as possible. There are 3 required webinars only available Sunday evenings and have to be scheduled ahead of time. It took me two months to get the course completed because of schedule conflicts with work. Because you have no upper level credits, you will have a chaotic path ahead if you are going to get everything done before April.

The OP only needs 12 UL credits for the BSBA. What's going to take awhile is meeting the other specific requirements. There is a TECEP for Strategic Management. It's more difficult, but if one is pressed for time, it's a quicker option than the PF course.

You have far beyond what you would need for a BGS in Applied Studies from Athabasca. Athabasca is the Canadian version of the Big 3, except they only take traditionally earned credits. They do not place a cap on community credits, do not require a Capstone, take D grades for everything but English Comp, and require 90 credits to graduate. They even have US regional accreditation. It would cost about $100 USD to apply and about $900 USD to graduate, inclusive.

Yes, AU will transcribe cc courses as upper level, as long as it corresponds to one of their upper level classes. I know of at least 3 people who have done this, including my nephew.

AU is a fabulous deal if you have at least 90 "butt in seat" credits. The difficulty for most people here is that they don't take CLEP/DSST, and they want 45 UL credits.

My impression, though, is the three-year program is a terminal degree, so it wouldn't work so well if the OP had any plans (or even a dream) to get a graduate degree someday. Is that accurate?
#17
Not really, since usually the requirement for further study is a "bridge" year to bring the credit amount up to 120. The point is moot for the OP, since she already has 136 credits.

Thanks for all the help. Any other suggestions. I am waiting for answers to whether my credits will be accepted. My credits were earned from 1980 to 1985. A few of the computer between 1986 and 1988. Finding that some of the schools are not giving credit due to age of classes. Business classes cant be older than 20 years and natural science cant be other than 10.

Athabasca does not have a stale dating policy for the BGS degree. What are your reservations about the BGS? If time and money are two major factors, and the degree can be in any subject, it's hard to beat. Are you looking for a specific major?

Kay,
Thank you for all your help. I don't have any reservations. I have just looking into all options. My children tell me I ask to many questions. haha. Besides a single mother of 5 children, I work as a High School secretary. I mentor a lot of students. I like to be able to give my students more than one option to succeed and they are able to choose what works for them. My daughter is in a similar situation as myself but she has only 35 credits and will need her degree by December 2015.
Thanks to this forum, I have given a friend information on the CLEP, DSST and FEMA exams and they will be able to finish their degree faster and cheaper and be able to start as a paid Firefighter earlier than he had thought.
