So I took the DSST Ethics in America test about three weeks ago. Passed the multiple choice. I still have not received an e-mail letting me know if I passed the essay portion. I also don't want to get scores forwarded to my school until I know I have passed. When I took the Public Speaking exam, I got the grade for my speech within a week. I'm getting a little anxious because I'm nearing deadlines for grad school applications and this was one of the last remaining degree requirements I completed.
For those of you who've taken a DSST exam with an essay portion, how long did it take you to get a score?
On a semi-related note, for those of you who also go to COSC, how long did it take them to get ECE grades on your transcript? I had mine "express" delivered several days ago (I paid $42 for the "express" delivery instead of $12 for the regular delivery and then found out that ECE sends the "express" transcripts in 3 business days and the "regular" transcripts in 5 business days and I experienced "express" disappointment). Again, the wait is killing me.

My understanding is that the essays on DSST's are optional. I was told they are sent to the school for grading (most just give you the pass based on the passing score of the multiple choice portion). You might want to call Prometric (check getcollegecredit.com for details and their phone number) but as far as I know (and did with my Technical Writing DSST which had an essay) the school decides on it.
My completed "non-traditional" credits include 27 credits from CLEP, 30 credits from DSST, 6 credits from ALEKS, 19 credits from FEMA courses including PDS, 3 credits from NFA courses, 10 credits from ACE Workplace Training, 3 credits from a TESC TECEP exam, and 3 credits from a TESC PLA course.

Here's the official note from
http://getcollegecredit.com/assets/pdf/d...merica.pdf
"Optional Essay: Test takers have the option to write an essay that will not be scored by DSST raters, but will be sent to the credit-awarding institution for consideration and scoring. Before taking this exam, students are advised to check with their institution to determine whether the essay is required."

Never, ever assume that "express" means it is worth the money. I was once offered FedEx two day shipping for "only $10" on something I bought. Just of out curiosity, I asked where the shipping point of origin was. It was being shipped from the same city as the one I live in. I received it the next day without paying extra.
Similarly, never assume electronic transcripts are faster or more accurate. Many schools print the electronic transcripts and manually rekey the data.

I would suggest that you definitely call DSST when you are ready to send your official score to your school because the optional essay that you typed in may not automatically be sent along with the transcript unless you specify that you need it. When you originally sat for the exam, the essay would have automatically gone to your school by entering their DSST code in as the score recipient. Not sure exactly what happens if you make this decision after the fact.
