help in Biology clep
#1
I am registered to do a clep biology exam this friday..I have to do it to graduate or else i will be in so much trouble. I only have 5 more days..I need some advise and help from people on this forum...

My resources: REA BOOK, CLIFFNOTES-AP, Peterson exam or maybe IC if you guys suggest? because i only have 5 days to cover so much..I will study like 10-12 hours a day until thursday night..

I will read REA book thoroughly, do PETERSON EXAM and also go over cliffAP book...anything else?

do you think IC can be done in few days?

Molecular biology- i have ok knowledge on this but still need to go over all the steps..like small details in krep cycle or photosynthesis

botany and Zoology- i understand the botany of a plant but i have zero knowledge on zoology

Population and evolution- some knowledge on population(read REA chapter on it) but nothing on evolution?

Please help me out here..I am in very desperate situation to pass this clep exam...no other choice

I think I have a thread on what I used to study for this exam. I did it in a short time period, but being a nurse helped a lot…anyway take a breath and use the outline on the Official Clep Guide to focus on the big areas. If you are strong in those you are likely to pass.

Biology | CLEP

If memory serves me correctly this is what I used and I passed it while working and being totally busy, so with the right focus, and going over the IC flashcards you will be fine. If you find yourself running out of time with IC flashcards, just focus on the area you scored lower on in your first try at the exam. Anyway, here's what I usually do:

1. Take the Official CLEP practice questions and see your strengths and weaknesses RAW. Sample Questions | CLEP

2. Go to Free Clep Prep Website and take the bigger test to determine on a a broader scale where you are at: Biology CLEP - Free study guide! - Free-Clep-Prep.com

3. Go to the Educational Portal and start going through the videos that you need: Biology 101: Intro to Biology Course - Free Online Video Lessons | Education Portal

4. Now take the IC flashcards and see how you do. Take note on how you do and which units you need work on and…

5. Work on learning your weaker areas using the Educational Portal videos or try You Tube "Crash Course Biology" videos…They are fast moving, but have some good info and I think they are funny: DNA Structure and Replication: Crash Course Biology #10 - YouTube

6. Go back and take more IC flashcards and see how you do now. Make sure you READ the answers and rationale! They help!

7. Anything you are still weak on, go back and look a the CLEP breakdown. If it's just one area, you might be alright since this exam is pretty much broken into thirds. But using REA, Petersons and the rest should have gotten you pretty far already, so at this point you should feel pretty awesome about taking the exam. I do think 10 hours a day is way more than enough time to take to study for this exam. I would just go back and do more…

8. More IC flash cards and read the answers and rationale!

9. Try to BREATHE and chill out a bit. This exam is 6 credits. If you use good test taking skills and actually answer what the question is asking as well as use deductive reasoning when you have no clue, you should do fine on this exam

10. Post us when you PASS Smile

Good Luck,
T

l recommend playing the khan academy videos' audio while driving in your car. This is good way to reinforce concepts and be productive with your driving time. I wouldn't worry about making it through all the videos just as much as you drive. I would make the REA book a priority, especially the practice tests.
Cleps Passed:

Information Systems & Computer Applications - 64
Spanish - 58
Analyzing & Interpreting Lit - 71
Principles of Macroeconomics - 53
Principles of Microeconomics - 61
Introductory Sociology - 54
Calculus - 51
Biology - 67

I just re-took this one today to make sure the study guide at FCP was still covering the right things - Scored a 63. Make sure you concentrate on cellular biology quite a bit as I had plenty of questions about the different parts of a cell (and the parts that make up those parts). Had quite a few DNA/RNA questions, as well as questions on the different cycles. Know what those are and what the inputs and outputs are. Plants/Animals only made up a small part of my test this time around, but the first two times I've taken this exam, they've been a larger part so don't neglect them.

Above all, don't freak out. You will get hammered with questions that you'll have no idea what the answer is. That's the Biology CLEP in a nutshell. Don't let those questions rattle you too much, just mark them for review and move on to the next one. If you use all the above resources that Getiton and Freddy recommended, you'll do fine. I always recommend IC for this one as well. There's a ton of flashcards for Biology, but if you know them, they will definitely help you.

Good luck and let us know how you did.
