Check out Saylor Academy for eleven courses that give college credit for just the ProctorU fee ($25).

The verified certs are not expensive, many courses have the option to audit or get verified. The real value would be continuing education, not really college credit. (one of my sons is in his second week of an edX via MIT and loving it- but we are not paying for the verification simply because he's only in 10th grade)

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum, and this post caught my eye. Lavagirl, are you referring to the free edx courses or the paid tuition courses? ( Online Learning | UC Berkeley Extension )

It's too bad if TESC and Excelsior don't accept the paid courses.

Refer to the post linked to below. Some of UC Berkeley's courses are worth college credit while others are just for professional development. You have to pay attention to the coding.

I do however, have to slightly disagree with the poster. TESC is likely to accept the courses that are worth undergraduate (1-199) and graduate credit (200-299). The 300-level and 400-level courses are not likely to be accepted because they are for professional development.

I was referring to the paid tuition courses.

I was asking twice the academic advisors about the next UC Berkeley Extension courses:

EL ENG X436.2 Java Discovering its power - 2 credits from UC
Berkeley extension
Java: Discovering Its Power Course | UC Berkeley Extension

Comp Sci x433-02 Fundamentals of Data communication and networking
- 2 credits from UC Berkeley extension
Fundamentals of Data Communications and Networking Course | UC Berkeley Extension

EL ENG X400 - 002 PHP programming for the web - 1 credit from UC
Berkeley extension
PHP Programming for the Web Course | UC Berkeley Extension

EL ENG X416.7 Introduction to Pearl programming - 1 credit from UC
Berkeley extension
Introduction to Perl Programming Course | UC Berkeley Extension

COMPSCI X422 - 011 Introduction to Information Systems Analysis and
Design-3 credits from UC Berkeley extension
Introduction to Information Systems Analysis and Design Course | UC Berkeley Extension

I got the reply from two different advisors "UC Berkeley Extension courses are not transferable to Thomas Edison."

lavagirl,

All of those courses are coded as professional development at Berkley. They are intended for post-bachelor studies. Courses coded 0XX-199 are undergraduate courses. The university of California system does not use the 100 - 400 system most of us are used to seeing. 0XX Courses are lower level and 1XX are upper level undergraduate codes.

UptonSinclair ,

I just answered Mr.Jonathan question, "Are you referring to the free edx courses or the paid tuition courses?". I wanted to show that the courses were not free.

All their online technology courses are starting with 4XX except Intro to C language programming.
