At Sophia, SDC, and other providers, your essays are supposed to be your own work. That means no ChatGPT and don't use rephrase features of ProWritingAid/Grammarly. It should be okay to use Grammarly ONLY for catching spelling mistakes or misplaced punctuation.

Basically, I don't use ChatGPT (or know how to use it anyways), I would not recommend using it either for any academic work, it needs to be your own writing. In addition to Grammarly, I use an online word counter, as I like to know how many characters or words in total I have for my assignments.

This could still be a problem in academia. You're supposed to conduct research not use AI. Also professors can tell when you write versus AI writing for you. AI quite often is flat out wrong. In academia, you'll need to use scholarly peer reviewed sources and cite these sources.

Do you use the conjunctions when you speak? Do you currently use them ini your writing? If not, they may come across very awkward and look like AI. I know some people who wouldn't be able to use these words in a sentence because they're not part of their every day lingo.

ChatGPT is wrong at least 20% of the time. I tried it out a few times when it first came out and I wouldn't trust it for anything that's being graded

For instance if you ask it to list Andrew Jackson's qualifications for President as a candidate (before he took office), it says he had no political experience at all. But he was a Congressman from Tennessee, a Senator from Tennessee, the Chief Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court, the military Governor of Florida, and the military Governor of New Orleans. He also founded the Democratic Party.

I wouldn't fire a gun that blew up 20% of the time and I feel the same way about AI at this point

how about using a book with list of academic words for writing.
for example: Academic Word List in Use

It's great to use sources and other resources you can find online to get ideas and do your research, in essence, you should not copy/paste or use AI to do your homework. Using the Academic Word List is a good book option to see what words there are that can be used, you can get that from a dictionary or thesaurus (online versions). Basically, you use AI and these resources for grammar, spell check, word count, etc... At the end of the day, you're the one writing the extended essay contents and correcting them first if it has any errors, I would only use these extra resources as a backup to cleaning up/finalizing your work.

Edit to add: And to let you know, Sophia.org is Open Book for their quizzes and exams (milestones, etc), they have touchstones for you to do written assignments. Here's an example thread you may want to review in regards to Open Book/Sophia.org, I mentioned Dictionary.com & Thesaurus.com, there are other members and their advice as well... https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...US-history

If you are doing a poetry class at Harvard, they might care about your word choice, though for most colleges we recommend that's not going to help your grade.
