ok ALL, i need your help. i am frustrated and disappointed.
i applied to TESC 3 years ago. got my eval done and had 12 courses outstanding. i decided to test out of the remaining stuff while waiting to enroll.
this year i reapplied. prior to that i emailed to find out what possible changes to anticipate. i was told nothing much, just pay the $75 bucks and submit any new transcripts for coursework taken.
well did that. they gave me my new evaluation with the 12 courses outstanding. i asked them to update with my new courses. it took 3 attempts to get anyone to update my evaluation.
well, GUESS what the results were, someone suddenly noticed that the previous evaluator had given me credit for coursework they shouldn't have. so they removed a whole bunch of courses. i need like 20 more hours because of the coursework taken away.
i expressed my frustration to Dr Keel in advising and told them it was not my fault. if they cannot uphold the credit they initially gave me then i am not interested in TESC. i want a refund of my $75. he tells me that is possible and to contact the Bursar's office. Well the Bursar's office has given me the runaround and refused.
i told them i would contact the President's office. At this point they send me to some lady called Laura who says she will send my dilemma to the Academic Appeals committee. A week later i get a response that they will NEITHER give me a refund nor give me credit.
WHAT DO I DO? Thank goodness i had not enrolled yet because come graduation time i would have lost a bunch of credits when someone suddenly noticed the error.
HELP..................WHAT DO I DO NEXT?
i have all their erroneous info by email as a paper trail. i am considering sending a certified letter to the President since he has no email on their website. that should have been a sign!!!!!!!!!

no idea, but offerring cheersmate in sympathy. That has to be beyond frustrating.
I have to admit, I'm heavily leaning towards excelsior bc of the near constant complaint of bad service TESC seems to generate. It is scaring me off big time. Our funds are just way, way too tight for me to take the risk. I'd be bawling like a baby if this happened to me right now.

3 years is a long time - perhaps the requirements changed since you originally had your credits reviewed. I had my credits reviewed at COSC a few years ago, and their requirements for the degree that I am seeking recently changed. When I apply I know that the original review will no longer be accurate - this is the drawback in waiting to apply until all credits have been completed.
Once you apply to TESC you will have a year to complete the remaining work. Can you get the 20 credits done in this time?

I'm a big fan of placing a value on my time. What you need to ask yourself is:
1. How much of your time and effort is that $75 worth? (I usually use my hourly rate for my job. For example, if I get paid $45 an hour, then that $75 is only worth about two hours of my time and effort.)
2. Once you figure the value out - What's the best way to spend that time?
Chasing the Burser's office? Meh, after the first "No, sorry" I would bump it up a notch. Ask them, "Okay, that's the policy. Now who has the authority to overrule that policy? What's their name and contact information? Thank you, now connect us please." There's always someone with the power to overrule a policy.
Find a contact number or Email for the dean (or assistant dean) Then call or draft an Email (with supporting documentation) explaining the issue.
Whatever you do, keep in mind that the clock is ticking. Anything over that value you placed on the money is wasted effort. If you end up having to write the money off, that may be the best way in the end.
If you just can't write the money off, or feel unable to do so -
I'd use about a third of that "time value" to draft up a very concise letter explaining the entire situation and expressing your disappointment with how TESC has handled it. Then if the above two suggestions fail, send a copy via certified mail to the dean. Tell him that you're making a last ditch effort to get the situation resolved, and if you don't hear from anyone in an acceptable amount of time, you'll publish the letter in your local newspaper as well as on the many educational forums and websites you visit. If you don't hear anything - Do it. You won't get your money back, but it'll be cathartic at least.
Any money you spend (certified mail, etc) needs to be subtracted from that $75 when figuring out how much time you'll spend on this problem.
Yes I'm a geek, but it really does help put everyday problems in perspective when you value your time. :p

Wow, 3 years is a long time. Within that period of time TESC has changed their required UL courses from 200 level to 300+ level, as well as other degree specific requirements. What are your other options, will EC accept the credits you lost at TESC? Just something to think about before jumping ship.
Good luck...

Yea, you had an eval. you were never a student. The requirements and what is and isn't eligible has changed a lot in 3 years, an dyou are not "locked in" at any certain requirment standards until you are a fully enrolled student. You wanted an eval, it costs $75 which you paid and they performed the service. You elected not to enroll at that time. You got what you payed for, an eval.

i applied in 2008. 12 credits outstanding.
did not enroll started taking oustanding courses.
in January 2010 i reapply.
they give me the same evaluation results with same 12 credits oustanding.
i ask how come they have not updated courses i took.
they say OH, we were not aware, give us some time to give you credit.
a 3rd party does my eval and takes away some of previous coursework and says OOPS someone messed up.
contact Dean, he says since we cannot give you those credit hours then take the $75 refund option.
I could let the 75 bucks slide, it doesn't make too much of a dent in life but IT IS THE PRINCIPLE. they are not admitting their error.
I keep getting wrong info. so say i had already paid the out of state tuition and then HEAR the oops, that would have totally screwed my finances and time goals.
i already told them i am going to another school but who knows how many other people could be running into this unaware............it's kinda deceptive.

My view, life is too short...we are in the middle of political budget isssues anyway. I'm sure they see it as they have performed a service so why refund...either take the loss or continue calling/emailing. Like a previous poster mentions decide how much time you are willing to spend on this and if not resolved in that timeframe move on.
The eval from Jan 2010 was probably someone pulling the exact same file from three years ago without updating. Unfortunately mistakes are made. As you said, at least it was caught upfront before you enrolled.
Good luck with your studies!

If you tell me what courses they pulled from you, I might be able to tell you why (if you want to know).
It's not deception, it's an unofficial eval. The thing is, they do a quick look-see at application. That's to give you an idea. Once you are a student, an official evaluation is conducted. I have seen cases of pre-graduation reviews turning up errors in initial evaluations- you wanna know about someone being pissed? Those guys REALLY thought they were done.
So, while I understand your frustration, I'm going to ask you if this is your brick wall? Is it that easy to derail your future? A clerical error is going to stop you from earning your degree? Be pissed, be mad, but get it done. THIS is the kind of thing that stops other people, you have to decide if THIS is the kind of thing that stops you. It wouldn't stop me- I'm just sayin.

I agree. A lot can change in 3 years. Who knows, TESC may not even be TESC in 3 years. I'm not taking $75 lightly but at least you know now before you plopped down the boo koo tuition bucks. At least you have 2 other options in EC or COSC.
