I just completed the Here's to your Health and the Principles to Supervision Dantes test. I used the study guides provided from this site. I can honestly say that if I had the study guides in front of me while I took the test, they would have not helped. The test covered areas that were not covered in the study guide. I passed the test but it was close to failing. I do not mind paying for a study guide if it helps on the test. I still need to complete the Ethics in America and the Intro to world religon test. I am seeking other study guides due to the lack of help offered by this site. If someone can offer another study guide please advise. Thanks

The study material will help you pass, but that's it. NO FLUFF...I found Petersons to be a better source.

The study guide did not help me pass. The study guide was a wast of my time and money. If the exam did not have any material on the study guide how did it help me pass?

I have taken both of these exams and passed with flying colors. I don't use just the IC cards. I rely just as much if not more on the specific exam feedback. This helps tailor your other studying. The IC flashcards are just good as a baseline of the material you will be expected to learn. I think if you change your perspective of what the flashcards are supposed to do for you it will enable you to be more successful on future exams. Good luck!

I guess I expected that if I knew the 400 questions and answers on the flash cards, I woulkd be ok on the exam. It turned out that maybe 5 questions were on the exam that were on the flash cards. When you study a book on a subject you would expect the test would cover what was in the book not from another book or topic. I felt that I was blindsided due to having faith in the IC flash cards questions.

I've found that memorizing the answer to IC is a major distraction if I just memorize the word to fill in the blank; I always have to make sure I grasp the idea.

Sometimes when I do the cards, I get the word wrong, but the word was REALLY close to what I meant and I think "well duh, yeah..". This means I'm grasping the concept, even though I don't memorize the exact word, so I still count it as a correct answer but continue to read the explanation.

Like the previous person said, the specific feedback forum is a goldmine. Use outside sources to study what people say to focus on there. It will save you time and frustration

As an incredible singular source of exam prep info, IC can and will assist you pass any exam but should not be considered an exclusive or exhaustive source of everything found on any exam. You may wish to consider other sources too - Good Luck!

Other Sources of CLEP & DSST Study Material
REA Books, Comex Books, Pass Your Class Guides, Standard Deviants DVD's, Petersons Practice Exams, Dummies Books, Idiot's Guides . Big Grin

One other thing.....ALWAYS check the Specific Exam Feedback Section for suggestions from other IC Students who have contributed some of the secrets of their success!

mkjohnson,

I have a suggestion........go look over the IC flashcards on HTYH again, and then report your findings.

I am making this suggession because IC is too much of a positive resource for you to get turned off because of the stress of almost failing.....

IC is not a study resource for CLEPs in the same way that college textbooks are a resource for a final exam that takes its questions directly from it. IC flashcards are a good way to learn the concepts that will be covered on a CLEP or DANTES. If anybody told you that IC flashcard material was copied verbatim from the test material, they lied to you. No, you will not find the same questions on the test. You will find questions that cover the same concepts, and some flashcards follow the test outline more closely than others. Example: the CLEP Marketing flashcards will teach you what a marketing mix is, but memorizing the exact wording of the flashcard question won't do you any good because the CLEP will have a different question that will require you to know what a marketing mix is.

Next time, think of the flashcards as an outline to study and base your other research off of. (Though many of us have passed many tests using only IC) The idea is not to memorize questions, it's to know the concepts. That way you actually learn something, anyhow.
