computer exam sequence and duplication?
#1
It's been a long while since I took the CLEP computer exam, and I didn't even take the DSST when I went through TESC, but I'm planning a computer sequence for my 8th grader and for the life of me can't remember which exams duplicate and which are considered "easier" of the lot. Plus, DSST has added a new computer exam that I'll like to plan in for him as well. So, from this list, what duplicates and what would be a good progression of easier to difficult? *these wouldn't be all for this year, but I'm trying to plan ahead* Thanks!!

EDIT: so I'm putting the first two together, can someone verify that this sequence would be a good order?

CLEP Information Systems and Computer Applications -or- DSST Introduction to Computing
then
DSST Management Information Systems
then
DSST Fundamentals of Cybersecurity

If goal is TESC the first two exams duplicate. List is in order of ease:

COS-101 DSST Introduction to Computing*
CIS-107 TECEP Computer Concepts and Applications (register as unenrolled student)**
CIS-301 DSST Management Information Systems
CIS-3XX DSST Fundamentals of Cybersecurity

* DSST version is best (language straightforward vs tricky wordy questions)
** He can take the TECEP as soon as age permits.

TESC:
AAS, Admin Studies. 2010
BA, Social Sciences. 2010. Arnold Fletcher Award.
AAS, Environmental, Safety & Security Technologies. 2011
BSBA, General Management. 2011. Arnold Fletcher Award. Sigma Beta Delta (ΣΒΔWink!

okay thanks. Well, I'm pretty sure TESC won't be the goal at this point. Our community college offers free dual enrollment, which I hope we can roll into a fully completed AA/AS and then my husband's university will enroll him for free tuition so he can finish the last 2 years. He's eligible for all 4 years at the uni, but the community college is actually a mile down the road and he can enroll in high school vs waiting to graduate; so I'm pretty sure that's going to be the plan for now, so I'm going to stick with CLEP/DSST for his 8th/9th/10th grade years, then dual enrollment for 11th/12th grade. At that time, he should be close to complete. If he's not, he'll be eligible for a Pell as soon as he graduates high school, which would cover the summer session before university enrollment. If I work this plan, his education shouldn't cost anything out of pocket except testing fees and books. (I have 3 boys following this plan)

Just got a response back from TESC, the DSST exam is CIS-344. So, you can take the TEEX Cybersecurity for IT Professionals (free, 2 cr) OR the DSST Fundamentals of Cybersecurity ($100, 3 cr) - but not both. Just depends on how many credits you need, and how much money you have!
