certificate=alumni?

Hi!

I was just wondering if I am thinking of earning a certificate from a college, would I be considered an alumni? For instance NYU has a plethora of certificate programs and I'm interested in them. If I took the courses for the certificate and earned it, would I be considered an alumni and be eligible to join alumni associations?

I think the qualifications for being considered for membership vary by institution... for example, in my case UIS considers any current / former student as worthy of joining the UI alumni association, whereas with TCC, they require you to have finished at least 24 credits with them.
